Re: Zildjian ZBT series worth it?

Ive been playing the ZBT rock set for awhile now and i really like them. Theyre good for starters, because they have a really constant and clean sound. I would use them until you know what sound you like from each cymbal and you have the money to invest in more or different cymbals. If your really into Zildjian, then you should check out their website, they have a good guide to what each sheet and cast cymbal types sound like. But the best thing to do is to go to a music store and listen for the sound you like from a cymbals in your price range.

Hi all, personally I would not bother with the Zildjan cheapies, while Zildjan make good cymbals in the more professional ranges, the cheap ones are beleow par.

As mentioned before in another cymbal-thread;I adore the Paiste Alpha series.
Accidentilly I could try the the Paiste PST 5 cymbals, that is not an expensive range at all!!
You can check them out on the Musicians Friend wbsoite.
They sounded real good, not quite as good as the Alpha's but surprisingly close!!
I know, cymbal choice is real personal, but it is worth-while to investgate this line of cymbals, they also come in attractive sets, sometimes even the cymbal-bag(s) are included.

Cheers and Happy drumming

Harry

I have ZHT'S they are really sturdy and sound really good for a cheap price...if you can spare a lil more cash go for them ZBT's break easily the only reason people use them is cause they are good replacement cymbals if low on cash and good cymbals are broken...but try some ZHT

Never been a big fan of any entry level offerings from the big 3. Meinl offers both the MCS line or their new b8 line of cymbals. both seem a cut above what other entry level producks from the big 3 are out. To revisit Wuhan Their new S series is a pretty well made line of cymbals their made from hand hammered B20 brass which is far superior to the B8 offering that are out their. good luck

Re: Zildjian ZBT series worth it?

for the price, yes. however, i would stick with using their hi-hats or rides. the cymbals are beyond thin and may only last a few sessions. the upside to that is after a few sessions, you now have some really trashy sounding cymbals you can use for effects. personally, i would say go down to your local music retailer and try out all their cymbals. start off with the expensive ones for reference (let's face it, can any of us really afford to drop $350 on 1 crash cymbal these days?). once you've found your ideal cymbal, check out the lower-end cymbals. my personal choice would be Paiste's PST-5 series. they sound great and they won't break your budget.
as for the ZXT series, there's a few pro drummers that actually swear by that series. they're a little more than the ZBT, but better sounding and more durable. i've tried those out too. i liked them, but wasn't able to afford a starter kit at the time. my PST-5's do just fine. i'm actually going to be replacing my ZBT's with PST-5's as soon as i can get $250 together for a starter kit (20" ride, 14" hi-hats and another 16" crash).

I personally think they sound great. I currently run with a ZBT set. 13" Hi-Hats, 12" ZBT Plus Splash, 18" Crash/Ride, 20" Ride, and an 18" China. Great for live perfomances, not as good for recording. IMO

Re: Zildjian ZBT series worth it?

Being a K Zildjian cymbal snob, i cannot believe i am saying this "Yeah they sound good enough to gig with." I bought a brand new kit (used from an extremely wealthy Lady) that had actually only been played on TWICE...the kid decided he no longer wanted to play drums so she bought him a $14,000 piano...sold the drums to me cheap...wish some wealthy Lady would adopt me) they came with ZBT Plus cymbals, was going to sell them to get my $ back, set them up and everyone was surprised by how good they sound.

I would NOT buy them NEW...as mentioned earlier go new with Wuhan or try DREAM they are awesome and cheap until they catch on here...i use my dream bliss series hat and ride with my practice kit every day.

Re: Zildjian ZBT series worth it?

when I was a beginner, I had the Paiste low end and 5 years ago I setup a four piece kit with the Zildjian ZBT's. I found that there was not much variation between the two brands.
If my memory doesn't fail me the ZBT's are hammer tuned.

When it come to cymbals, it's priced according to what materials are used, not so much the sounds they produce.

Still it is best to go to the drum shops and try them out for yourself. Your own ears have no deception.

Great advise from everyone here.

It all depends on the sound your looking for as a matter of preference to your taste.

Good luck on your kit and enjoy every minute of it.

Remember that your not buying a drum set, you are making an investment that will last along time.
