Re: Zildjian ZBT series worth it?

I'd go for the Wuhan S or Paiste PST 5 series. See, Wuhan S' are made with B20 bronze, the same all of the best cymbals - As, Ks, AAXs, HHXs, Paragons, Twenties, Signatures, MB20, Byzance - are made out of. Also, they're amazing cymbals. Interstate Cascio Music has them. PST 5s are really good as well. ZHTs and Classics from Zildjian and Meinl respectively would work too. Check each out and take your pick. You want to get really good cymbals one at a time, not ****ty cymbals in a pack.

Good advice. Interesting about the B20 bronze. I will check it out. I have a Cascio catalog at home. Thanks! Hey, what do like for drum heads? I'm happy with Evans: Dry for the snare and hydraulics for the toms, plus the bass drum system works great. They really take out that "ring."

Bang on, Joel

Sabian Xs20's are also made with the B20 bronze.
They are a little higher grade than the Wuhan S series.
They do cost more too. But it's worth it.

Honestly, just save your money and buy decent cymbals one at a time. it kinda sucks for a little while but you'll be much happier in the long run.
This

I got a starter box of ZBT cymbals when I got back into drumming six years or so ago. I figured it was a name brand so it had to sound good. (There were no starter level cymbals I knew of the last time I was drumming.) Wrong! I sold them
as soon as I started playing with other musicians because the sound embarassed me. Get higher end cymbals for good sound.

^^ I agree with you.
My friend got ZBT's because the name (Zildjian)
and he thought they sounded good because they were his first cymbals.
I played on his kit and I went home and got my own cymbals because
the ZBT's sounded sooooo bad.
But I won't tell him.

Talking Re: Zildjian ZBT series worth it?

Hi all,

I just got the impression that the general feel is that "B20" bronze is better then "B8".
This is very, very, untrue, it is just different.

Also the alloys are not just B8 or B20, there are subtle additions to create the right properties for a certain cymbal line.
This is never disclosed by the cymbal manufacturers for obvious reasons.
These subtle additions can be silver, nickel, phosfor etc.

One of the best examples is the Paiste 2002 series.
This cymbal line is one of the BEST if not THE BEST cymbal line ever produced.
And the alloy is: CuSn 8, in laymans term B8.

Bonham was over the moon with them, so are many other famous drummers.

Cheers and Happy drumming,

Harry

Woah...
thats an eye opener.
I always thought B8 was low quality and B20 was awesome.
Where did you find this out, Harry?
Figures because most people say that Sabian B8s are pretty good
and there are more negative reviews on the Xs20's
(Made with B20 alloy.)

Re: Zildjian ZBT series worth it?

My starter cymbals were Paiste cymbals. They didn't sell cymbal packs in those days. 18" ride, 16" crash and hi hats. I don't remember the model but I knew I had a fairly decent cymbal setup. A few years later i get Zildjians. I kept the old cymbals and used them whenever I wanted to play something with an emphases in Jazz and Rock playing.

I was lucky guess.

What series was the Zildjians?
Do you know? Paiste makes pretty good
