Help! Zildjian or Sabian

Hi guys, i have a 18inch A custom crash and 20inch Avedis crash/ride, im thinking of getting another 17inch A custom crash and 14inch A custom hats, now the thing is i could save myself about 150 euro if i get sabian AAX set with 16 aax stage crash,14 stage hats and 20 stage ride
Just wondering which u guys think is better?,and as far as the sabians blending with the zildjians i already have?
I mostly play heavy enough rock by the way

The reason i posted this is because i have to buy them online and no shops in the tiny city i live in have these so i cant play them,

i know what A custom crashes sound like cuz i have them but as far as the rest i dont have a clue, and those online clips on the sabian and zildjian site arent much help to my ears ,

they all sound similar, and theyre is a matter of saving quiet a bit of money here so i wanted to know what people thought about these 2 brands
,hope ye can help, thanks

Well considering my zxt trashformer just cracked...after 3 days of playing I'm liking sabian now...perty much all teh way. I have xs20 rock pack(hats, ride, crash) and have played them for about half a year and nothing but good sound. If I'm able to get a replacement for teh zxt through zildjian and it doesn't crack again I'll like them again :P but yea.

The two main crashes i use side by side are 16" AAX stage and 16" A Custom crash.
The A's you know the sound of already, they are great, nice sounding rock cymbals. Because i play a variety of stuff is the reason i also use the AAX and between them i cover the material i play. I like the contrast between them and played together they sound great. I also use my 21" Zildjian A sweet ride as a crash for a bigger crash sound and it is more AAX sounding. The AAX certainly is suitable for rock, but has a shimmer to it unlike the A custom. I would say more like a paiste Signature than anything, it's nice i like it. Would probally opt for Sigs if i ever were to replace these.
The two different crashes give me flexibility, the A custom being a bit stronger and brighter, the AAX more musical, both cut through nicely and speak nicely when played.

The AAX hi hats look good as all purpose too, sorry haven't tried them which is what you need to do if possible. Whether they blend with what you use is really up to your ears, best help i can give. Perhaps try the sound files the manufacturers have to give an idea.

If you're cracking thick cymbals you have bad technique. As for sound, why don't you forget about the brand and what the cymbal is "supposed" to sound like and just #$%^&*ing listen to what it ACTUALLY sound like to YOUR ears. Blend cymbals that way instead for a real set of sonically matched discs.

Re: Help! Zildjian or Sabian

although i'm not a fan of sabians.. for the type of music you play and the cymbals you already have...i would go with the sabian...
some people think you should listen...including myself but if you are buying online than you obviously can't like you said so sonically speaking most of the sabians i've heard and owned whether they are a's or b's or whatever are always very "untextured" sounding and loud and i'm sure that will match with your others.

My experience is that Zildjians typically have a wetter sound than Sabians unless you get something off the wall like the Earth Ride or Dynobeat hats. I wouldn't worry about mixing and matching brands too much though. There will be cymbals you'll like and cymbals you don't, and the brand shouldn't stop you from using them.

Dude, it was a zxt. They are about the worst Zildjian cymbal except for the zbts. And that isn't saying much. You can't expect a cheap cymbal to not crack if you play hard. I'd go with Zildjian, because I've never cracked one. Sabians are good, but I used to play them and they ALWAYS cracked on me. I even cracked the bell of my AAX ride.

Re: Help! Zildjian or Sabian

Zbt might be better then zxt... my friend plays and likes his zxt splash has had it for years...

Sabian like any company has "good" and "bad" products the AAX stage cymbals are not my first pick... hats...I dont like them, ride... not ping and i dont recomend it as your main crash ride, a friend of mine played my AA metal X 21" and he liked it better then his own(stage)its just not a ping ride(my friend uses a zilbell 9.5 inches), crash, his broke, now he uses AAX plosion... hope you understand.

Re: Help! Zildjian or Sabian

lol, I don't expect $70 to tear in 3 days of being in my pocket. Nor do I expect a cymbal to crack in 3 days from playing it...well how it's supposed to be I guess. A lil 14in wuhan china I have cracked in a couple months and it was $10 lol. I did get a refund for the trashformer..aka a replacement. Bout a month later that cracked and I still have to send it off for a replacement.

Re: Help! Zildjian or Sabian

i would definately go with zildjian. Sabian is good when you get the really expensive cymbals. The avedis and A customs have a really great sound without annoying overtones or ringing. they are perfect for live play. I would go with avedis hi-hats too. and possibly A customs for all the crashes. Hope this helped
