Cymbals for a particular genre?!!!!

I am a part time drummer who gigs occasionally. I mostly play music styles of blues, roots, and folk with a lot of brush and power rod stick work on a stripped down set (14" bass, snare, and cymbals...soon to add floor tom). I currently play on a set of Sabian B8-beginner cymbals (18" ride, 13" hi-hat). What suggestions do you have for a better sounding hi-hat/ride combo for my genre of play? I would like to move up to a larger ride but am open for the size of hi-hats. I am not particularly looking for a "cymbal package", just some complimenting sounds.

Your suggestions and input are greatly appreciated,

Todd

I would think that for those Genres you would want a darker less bright) sounding cymbal Like a Zildian K Dark, or a Hand Hammered Sabian. Go to the websites of bands or drummers who play in those Genres, and check out what their drummers are using. Then try to get to a store to actually hear some in real life.

Or meinl byzance dark...
A customs are always a good cymbal too. But the K series from zildjian is good for slower styles..more jazzy, along with HH(hand hammered)/HHX from sabian

I playyed some aax sabian studio cymabals, and they were very nice! the ride was soft(ish) with a nice wash and the hihats were very nice and balanced, not too agressive, and the crashs were really glassy and not too loud.

Go tap and play...
Look for what characteristics you want.
If you want a lot of cymbal spread in a ride then go for a crash/ride
If you want cymbals that respond very quickly then get medium-thin to thin cymbals.

On the hats... experiment with sizes and combinations.
You say you have B8 already.
What you can do is get a new set of hi-hats and combine the two.
Maybe what you are looking for will be two B8 tops to make one combination and then use both B8 bottoms on another hi-hat stand. You could set up one with this Buy Gibraltar Auxilairy Hi-Hat Arm With Clamp online at Musician's Friend which will hold it in a specific setting.

All I am saying is look at what you have, and where you want to go, and decide if you want to modify your current, or integrate it, or just go new all together.

My personal favorite is the Wuhan S brand. It isn't everyone's cup of tea... but I love the sound of them.
