Re: on-line cymbal question

It sounds like it would be a good idea, I think however you would have a constant headache. The main problem I see with it is that we as drummers using a product that is rented or being tried out would not treat as our own in a lot of cases. The insurance you wold have to carry on stock for rentals that could get damaged could be costly. Renters would be a lot less likely to use the service if they thought they would have to pay for something that got broke. Not to mention the amount of capital you would have to put up in order to have a supply large enough to sustain the operation.

Re: on-line cymbal question

When renting out the cymbals, you would need to charge full price for the cymbals, or one cymbal, on a credit card. (This would demonstrate that they have the intention of buying the cymbal if they like it.) You alone would decide the condition of the cymbal as returned. And you would make the appropriate credit to the credit card upon the cymbal's return. This would put you in charge.

If no cymbal was purchased, there would be a flat fee for the tryout.

You would build your reputation as a fair renterseller of cymbals -- refunding in full whatever the customer truly deserved. You would obviously be providing a service. If it catches on , I don't see why you couldn't make a living that way. Netflix does it.

Re: on-line cymbal question

Yes, buyers' remorse has had it's effect on many of us. One cannot take into consideration the fact that there are many drummers, who simply beat the crap out of everything, before they determine that a product is not suited to their needs. When I buy new cymbals, I make sure that they are not the ones hanging in the trial room. I have bought used cymbals, which need severe polishing, but are not cracked or dented or scratched, from Music Go Round, at a fair savings compared to retail price for new. Still, what may sound good in the store, is far afield from what may be suited for an individuals' needs and sound goals.
You pays your money, and you takes your choice. Buyer beware - always!
