Re: So Guys n Gals What are YOUR Favoutite Make of Cymbals?

I have been playing Istanbul Sultans for some time now, and love their musical tones. I also have some Sabian AAX, and a set of UFIP class series. Three Wuhan chinas for accents, and a smashing Wuhan crash, oh, and a pair of 8" and 10" Sabian splashes. Bit of a dog's dinner, but it works for me!

Re: So Guys n Gals What are YOUR Favoutite Make of Cymbals?

I'm a sabian guy. I've owned zildjian a customs before and didnt think they were versatile enough for me. We had an old old old crash on one of our kits in high school. The tone always stuck in my head and I always told myself I would find it. The closest I could come was in a sabian B8 pro. I now own all but 3 of the cymbals in that series. I absolutely love them. I was worried about them being cheap and poor quality. I have hammered on them hard. They have lots and lots of miles on them and abuse from countless gigs and shows on them. They still shine up beautifully and sound as good if not better than new. The only complaint I have against sabian is just for laughs I was in the local drum shop and he had a 6" b8 splash. I never even played it before i left. I took it home set it on the cymbal stacker and hit it! I've never been so dissapointed in my life. It sounds like
I was banging on a piece or iron!

I don't care which brand you pick.... yo still have to play 'em all as every single piece of metal sounds and responds differently..... having said that, ..... I find that there are no better cymbals in the world anywhere..... than the Zildjian K series.... but like I said you still have to play 'em and sift thru the dogs.... 'cause even in the Ks there are some dogs...it's just the way it is with individual B20 cast bronze. I'm quite happy with my Ks and I am VERY hard to please! But I took my time (many months/years picking them out of the pack.

Cool Re: So Guys n Gals What are YOUR Favoutite Make of Cymbals?

I'm just starting, so I don't have much experience with cymbals yet, but I do have the Paiste 201 Series, and I absolutely love them. Very clear, crisp sound.

Re: So Guys n Gals What are YOUR Favoutite Make of Cymbals?

Well...
I really love the cymbals on the set I play at the church I attend. They are Sabian and as follows....
14" hand hammered hats
8" & 10" paragon splashes
14" & 15" AAX studio crashes
21" Signature Universal ride
18" HHX explosion crash

Now I really like the balance and expressive ability these give me. But on my set at home I recently bought a set of Paiste cymbals as follows...
14" Twenty series hats
16" Signature full crash
20" 2002 ride
18" Twenty series crash

These provide a new and different sound quality that I like. Not better or worse than the set at church, just different. Alas, probably like most drummers... if I could afford it, I'd probably have at least 100 different cymbals from different manufacturers and series. If only I was rich. (Haaaa-hah-hahhhh)

Re: So Guys n Gals What are YOUR Favoutite Make of Cymbals?

I have a Sabian HHX Metal ride 20". Very nice cymbal, heavy, high pitch and has a nice sustain. It's alittle too powerful for ballads. But, it combines with anything that's loud and bassy. I would like to try the Zildjian K series and the Sabian HH series. I have a Zildjian med-crash 18' which is very responsive and LOUD. I thought I'd like the Zildjian Rock Hats 14". They're not everything I am looking for in hats but I like them better than the Sabian Stage Hats. Church has Sabian XS series: 20" ride, 16" crash, 14" hats. When I'm not playing, it's a good opportunity to listen and I'm surprised. They're very nice sounding cymbals.
