Re: New Zildjian Crash Cymbals

Decide what you want the cymbal for first, what style of music, what nuances you need for your music i.e loud, soft, full, explosive, long or short sustain, size, etc.
Then look at the Zildjian site and narrow down a series and listen to sound files to get an idea. Use your ears as to what fancies you and will fit into your music that you play, forget about glossy brochures and cymbal appearance (or what any other drummer uses unless you can try and find the same cymbal which is likely to be a bit different anyway).
Bottom line is do some research and discover your instrument in the process.

I plan on getting the Zildjian 15" and 17" ZHT Fast Crashes. I don't know if they will fit what you play, but I liked them (at least the sound clips).

Re: New Zildjian Crash Cymbals

Can't go far wrong with A Custom, popular with big name artists, i use a 16" A custom crash, it's versatile and nice sounding.

ZBT v A Custom

ZBT are entry level cymbals, A custom are designed for drummers from learner to pro level. They are much better quality (and the price goes up) and i'll wager will sound superior.

A feak if they both sounded the same, and who knows you may like the ZBT better?? and there is nothing wrong with that.
I think it's Adrian Young (of No Doubt fame) who swats a ZBT in his kit.

Test play an A custom in a music store beside what you already have, make the sales assistant earn their keep, and make a choice with your ears.

Or bring in your ZBT 18" just in case, I brought in 2 of my cymbals just to try out a 16" crash once, and its my favorite 16" crash(also my only one...). no two cymbals sound alike (I guess thats why the drummer of KISS/ Alice Cooper has about 7 Z custom 19" crashes!).
