Hey I just bought a drum set and for some reason the hi hat cymblas are just closed and the pedal wont go down. I dont know if it is the spring or what but any help would be appreciated. Thanx in advance.
This may sound stupid, but do you have the wing nut on the top hat tightened? If not check and make sure there is not a problem with the rod that runs through the whole stand. I could be bent, or not completely screwed in to the chain at the base.

the wing nut is tightened good and the rod has no damage and it is screwed in all the way. what is happening is the rod is just falling. i am not sure what the spring is supposed to do but I know my spring isn't doing anything, it just sits there.
I tried that but when I loosen the wing nut the rod just falls down and so does the pedal. This is driving me insane. I think it has to do with the spring because my spring doesn't do anything.
Ok.. there is a way to adjust the spring... but first what kind of hi-hat stand do you have. make and model would be nice... or whatever drum kit it came with.
Somewhere near the base, the bottom of the spring will have to be anchored to the stand and the top will need to be grabbing the rod to push it upwards.
