Re: help needed for splash and crash

I've been a big fan of the Wuhan S series cymbals.
The 10" splash has such a nice sound...
Plus wuhan is a very inexpensive brand.

My only recommendation is to test drive before you buy.
With the wuhan line there are good and bad sounding cymbals.
So one 16" crash sounds like a dream and the next sounds horrible.
These are hand hammered cymbals... so sound quality is vaired.

Or... buy used cymbals. You can get some outstanding buys that way.

One note about splash cymbals though... if you are a heavy hitter you will
be more likely to break splash cymbals. I use a 10" for durability as well as
volume... but that is what works for me.

Re: help needed for splash and crash

My best advice is to never discount the cheap cymbals...
there are gems among them... it may take a moment to find a gem...
but boy is it worth it.
My china is a no name brand.. very trashy and brash. I think it is about
a 14-16" cymbal in size... I paid all of $40 for it. I've abused it for a good couple
years and it looks at me begging for more.

Re: help needed for splash and crash

A good size crash to get (if you already have a 16" one) is an 18", and they're easy to find.
Splash - I have a real cheap ($30) 8" one that is pretty awesome, but smaller splashes only fit with some types of music, so I'd go for a 10".
Also, don't hesitate to get the cheap cymbals - I just bought a 14" china and a 10" splash for under $100 total, so the good buys are out there, even if they might take a while to find.

Just to show you two examples

Cymbal Pack 10" Splash 12" China 16" S Crash FREE Stand - eBay (item 390011630178 end time Dec-01-08 14:12:22 PST)

This one sounds good!

New Wuhan 22" China Chinese Cymbal For Drums Sets Kits - eBay (item 290266594824 end time Dec-08-08 05:50:25 PST)

Others:

New Sabian AAX 15" X-Plosion Crash Brilliant Cymbal - eBay (item 110295115130 end time Nov-30-08 09:47:11 PST)

I recommend 15" 16" 17" 18" or 19" (bigger difference in 19")... Try used!

It's funny, but if you ask 10 drummers you're going to get 10 different answers. No one suggested a 14" crash but, man, in my mind that's the most versatile of all crash cymbals. It won't ring as long as your 16" and if you get a thin Zildjian, then it will have a nice high tone to complement the deeper 16".

I would say zilijan or an Agazarain 8'' splash. They both work fantastic and have an awesome sound and sustain to them.
Good Luck and shop around for good prices.
PEACE!!!
