Re: boom stands, and cymbal stands

I would definatly reccomend boom stands, because they give you much more diversity of placement, and offer more comfort. I have two straight stands, and bought a dog bone for one of them, and actually, it gave me a great place to put my "ride" cymbal (its a broken crash) So I would reccommend a boom stand, but dogbones are are awesome!!

Re: boom stands, and cymbal stands

From what you have said I would get a boom stand. They certainley give you more positioning options than a regular straight cymbal stand. I preffer a boom stand with a nice counterweight. Some have them some don't, like almost everything else drumming related it's a personal choice. I do feel that counterweights give the stand more stability and again more options. like putting a bigger cymbal on it and extend the boom arm further than a boom stand without. Your next cymbal ? Hmm, well everyone seems to think a splash is the way too go and I won't argue. I use 7 splashes in my set up ( I love them ) not one by the way is on a dedicated stand. they are all on cymbal extenders over crashes and rides. You could also look at maybe a smaller crash say 14" or a bigger on say 18 or 19" one. Looking at the responces you've got a lot of info make the best of it. T.

Re: boom stands, and cymbal stands

Counterweighted boom stands seem useful and heavy duty looking but I had A massive 9 piece Pearl with 2x 24" kickdrums and super deep power toms. I thought I would need Pearls biggest and baddest boom stands with counterweights so I got 3 of them. My mini boom stands ended up reaching just fine and my super boom stands just ended up being super heavy and A pain in the butt to move and set up. I actually kinda hated them, but thats just me.
