Paiste Black Alpha Slipknot Edition

are these any good? i was just looking for a new set of cymbals and i stumbled across these. i like the black look and the fact they're slipknot edition lol but thats not makes a cymbal good, i haven't actually seen them in any stores so i don't now how they sound, but if anyone could give me some help on these cymbals possibly any other cymbals that would sound excellent for my rock/metal band at any price, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Man, these are a gimmick. Just like Zildjian's Pitch Black's that are now discontinued. IMO Joey sold out pushing these. If you coat a cymbal with a paint or substance of some type, it will remove any crisp tones and wash. Yea, they may look cool, but so does a quality cymbal by any reputable manufacturer out there. I'd say stay far, far away- period man.

Black Alphas are "Sheet Cymbals" with the added touch of hand hammering. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The regular Alphas are quite good sounding. The only thing I would question is the long term durability of the black coating( a normal cymbal can be cleaned to make it look like new). There also seems to be a limited number of sizes and types, but I still think they are pretty cool. If it was me I would stick with the regular Alphas.

The Paiste Alpha range is an excellent semi pro range.
It is THE value for money cymbal series.
They are lathed and hand hammered. A lot of pro use them. If you go to the Paiste website you find under artists some great drummers who use Alphas.
The durability of any coating on a cymbal is questionable.

If you can get the black cymbals for a good price it would be still worth considering.

owwwwwwww doooooooooooo !

Stay clear of the black alphas and the zildjian pitch black s -
I was warned off them for a very reputable northern England drum store who I was nt even buying anything from so its legit

I have however done something I`ve not done in over 30 years of playing
Ive always palyed with the cymbals for about half an hour before I`ve purchased them
I bought a full set of Alphas on the net form various shops up and down the land
without trying them
The bonus being I got some good deals and the cymbals are bloody brilliant and they look amazing too
I`m really pleased with them
I thought I was sticking my neck out but its payed off well
alphas are the way to go

Here here, alphas are probably the best balance of sound, durability and value on the planet.

Whether they have the black paint on or not is up to you, but you probably will regret it for some reason later on.

Smart move by Joey in my opinion. None of his fans could have ever afforded his white 2002's

What cracks me up is his signature kit is a poplar export when he plays a freeking maple masters. at least use a maple export.

Skinslapper, see I respectfully disagree. I think it was a sell out on his part. Sure, kids are gonna buy 'em, but no one can tell me that a coating on a cymbal doesn't take away, or mute in some fashion the true quality of the cymbal itself, low end, mid, or high end. Plus, yes there's the "how long will the coating last issue". I just really feel that on Paiste and Zildjian's part it's just a HUGE marketing gimmick. I'm looking into Remo Black Suede's. I love the look, but I'm not sold on the tone they'll produce on my Saturns. JMO.

Don't get me wrong - I love slipknot (So much I even have their logo on my arm), plus Alphas aren't bad cymbals at all, I have all 2002's/signature/rude and a 14" alpha china which more than holds its own, but the Black Alphas are a sell out marketing gimic.

For one, Jordison would NEVER play with them, live or in studio. There not professional cymbals.

Secondly - They don't sound nice - where as alpha (2006 models) do! The ones I played on at my local drum shop sounded tinny as hell.

If you getting alphas - get standard 2006 model alphas, they look stunning and sound a million dollars.
