Re: Zildjian ZHT or Paiste PST5

Thats a tough call, both are very similar sounding rides when comparing apples to apples. Both are very good quality cymbals. Your pick will depend on what type of sound are you looking for. The Paiste rides seem to be a bright ride and the Zildjian seem to be a bit darker ride.

The best way to choose between the two is to try them both at a drum store (if you can) and listen to them. If you don't have that option you can compare them online and get an idea of what each will sound like.

Well, Both cymbals sound virtually similar, I personally don't own either but have tested in stores. If it were me it would just be upon which brand you prefer. But as said above, the zildjian has a somewhat darker sound as apposed to the Paiste which has a lighter sound. I would go for the Paiste.

I prefer the PST 5 - less brassy, beginner overtones.

Hi all,

I agree with "the brassy" comment.
One of the best ways to make your mind up about a ride cymbal is to crash them.
When you do that (in this case) it will be the Paiste without a doubt.

By the way, the PST 5 series incorporates a Crash/Ride (or Ride/Crash) which is a very, very nice cymbals. Rides that crash well are often more melodious, a bit more refined.

Cheers and Happy Drumming,

Harry

Re: Zildjian ZHT or Paiste PST5

I think taht PST5's would be a little better. But thats because I like
the bright glassy sound of the Paistes. If you can, go to a near by music store or online and see what they sound like
and see if they fit your style of music. Paiste does make metal and rock series cymbals.
But I don't think they have those kind for Pst5's. The cheapest you can go for rock cymbals
are Alphas. Pst5's are a lot sturdier too in my opinion. But, go with what sounds good to you. Cheers, and happy drumming!

I mean, this guy seems on a budget, but for a ride, I like to go all out. I'd say get a used Paragon ride, used A Custom Ping Ride, or new Alpha Groove or Rock Ride.

If there's not a store near you there are cymbal sound samples you can listen to. Let your ears be the judge. Cymbal selection is a matter of taste to the individual.

Hey Squildjian,
I've seen some poeple use the Groove Ride as a crash.
It actually isn't that bad. It has a nice deep, full sound and looks beautiful!
I plan on getting the Paiste alpha Rock Ride for my new set next month.
