The other line I'd recommend looking at is the Sabian B8 Pro. They have a very very nice sound and if you are gonna drop $200 it might as well last you while--the other cymbal lines you mentioned are very beginner level and have little life (in terms of pro-sounding cymbals) beyond your early learning phases. By this I mean the B8's sound good enough to keep as you progress, while the others will probably not as they have a trashier sound.

But, it's your ear that will choose best. I'd look at the websites of all the manufacturers and listen to audio clips before I pulled the trigger on a set...

Here's a few that I have bookmarked:
SABIAN Cymbals - BECAUSE SOUND MATTERS
Zildjian.com - EN-US - Homepage
Paiste: Home
http://www.meinlcymbals.com/
Their canceled, YAY!
I drum metal, and I didn't like them... over priced.

I'd say go for either the MCSs or ZBTs. I have a few ZBTs, and don't listen to what people say, they sound just fine. They're really surprisingly good for beginner cymbals. MCSs are very warm and full for beginner cymbals; I like them as well.

Squiljian is right.
ZBT's are actually really good

Go to Zildjian.com or the Meinl cymbal websites and sound test them.
Also, you could go to Youtube.com and listen to sound tests real people
did on your choice cymbals! Good Luck!

Test out all the cymbals, I know great drummers who love playing Pearl crashes rides and hats because they basically are B8s (they are even made in canada last time I knew) plus they are cheaper then normal cymbals.

Re: Newb needs cymbal help

Slingerland's got it right. Zildjians "A" and "K"'s would be a much better choice.

Zildkians have that crisp sound if that's what your looking for in cymbals.

Paiste have more flat response just as the Zildjian ZBT's have a flat response.

I personally would purchase each cymbal individually after trying them out at the drum shops. I also stay away from cymbal packs because I had a bad experience with them and ended up buying more than I needed.

So going to a drum shop and testing the sounds would be the best way to buy depending on what style of music your looking to play. Only you know what you need when you hear them.
