Question Need a new crash...pro opinions pls!

Alright,

So i've currently got a HH Sabian 16" Dark Crash, however it's cracked...and has been for a LONG TIME. I would say I've probably had this crash now for about 9 years...I think it's time to invest in a new one. If it wasn't cracked, i probably wouldn't lol...im still playing and recording with it (ya, it doesn't sound the greatest)

I am looking for something that has a quick attack and dark tone. I liked the HH but found it a little too agressive (powerful)...want something a little less heavy.

I was at the store today and came across the one I originally THOUGHT I wanted (AA 14" fast crash) but found it to be more 'whinny' than i expected. They had a AA17" fast crash which was decent, but a little too beat up (from testing in demo room) and tone too high pitch.

Does anyone have any idea what make/model I should look into? I stuck with Sabian only because my hats and ride are the same make, but I'm willing to go with another company.

Suggestions PLEASE

Well you want dark with quick attack and how about decay, short?

I am a fan of the HH and HHX lines from Sabian, and really like the 17" HHX Studio Crash:
SABIAN Cymbals - HHX Studio Crash 17"

I also like the 17" HH Thin Crash:
SABIAN Cymbals - HH Thin Crash 17"

As well as the 18" HH Thin Crash:
SABIAN Cymbals - HH Thin Crash 18"

I personally like the Sabian HHX line as they are modern sounding and dark, some drier than others, but overall great sounding cymbals. Some of the more traditional HH's are also beautiful sounding cymbals too, so I mix them up around my kit.

But go surf around a bit to see if you can identify your sound reference and then hit the store to see if you can find the ones you liked on line and try them out...

Sorry, forgot about decay...slight decay, not something that holds too long or drowned out but enough to leave impression.

Thanks for the reply guys. I think what you mentioned about the HHX is what i'm looking for....modern style, dark is exactly what im looking for. I've done TONS of online research for crashes (still havent picked one up, will next week) and the best i could come up with was between AA fast crash or HH/X series. Just needed opinion on which version to go with (studio, fast, heavy, etc).

Thanks

I love my AA's vintage sound, but if you are wanting dark and Sabian is your brand, then the HHX is they way to go without a doubt.

Well I like the HHX Thin series, they have less volume, but a quick attack and fast-ish decay. And they're dark. They are awesome for recording.

The other nice controlled-sounding series is the HHX Studio, they have fast attack, less volume and fast-ish decay. Great for recording also.

Other than that its gonna come down to your ear...
