Re: Zildjian or Sabian?

My girlfriend bought me a 5 piece pearl set with a pair of old ZILDJIAN "Turkish"cymbals,a 20" ride and a 16" crash back around 1980.They were heavy, meaty and had wonderful tone with a lingering decay.I purchased a VERY AFFORDABLE set of" AMICI Vintage cymbals that the 20" ride reminds me of those oldies. My son's teacher even complimented the AMICI's over my Sabian 16" AAX EXPLOSION! .I picked them up as a basic starter set over SABIAN/ZILDJIAN Starter packs that are out.Got the 20"ride,16"crash,12"splash and 14" high hats for under $279.00...I feel I got a pretty good deal and we love these lil monsters.I am not going to tell anyone I payed less than $279.00 for the pack....I just can't! tell you that!

Re: Zildjian or Sabian?

Zildjian or Sabian? The answer is: Paiste.

Simply because there are many good Sabians and Zildjians, yes great sounding ones. But just as many lousy sounding. Paiste always sounds great.
Disclaimer: Ofcourse, I am biased, like everyone.
But when I lisytened to a recording of my own drumset the other day, I was again struck by the beautiful sound of my 10-year old Paiste ride!

Re: Zildjian or Sabian?

I know that everyone says this, but it's all about preference! I used to like Zildjians untill they became machine made. I know that Sabian also makes cymbals by machine, but they have the separate lines which are hand hammered into shape. Another thing I like about Sabians, is their usage of fresh and new ideas. They also have a wide variety of cymbals.

Mercedes or BMW?.....all about what you want out of them to compliment your existing kit.One thing I have learned on this wonderful site...nobody force feeds their opinions....they merely offer options and suggestions..everyone is different.
