Oh okay. I get it.
Nice clearing for all of us Harry.
Since Bronze is a mix of 2 elements,
you can't advance the percentage of bronze in a cymbal.
You can only up the percentage of tin or copper in the bronze
compound. Making it either B20 or B8 alloy.
But B20 tends to be better than B8, or did you say B8 is? Or it doesn't really matter?

All of us? I thought most of us knew that. No offense. And no, its not either B20 or B8, it can be anywhere from B8 to B20. Those are just the two extremes. ZHTs, for example, are B12. And a higher tin content is considered better, so basically if the number's higher, its better.

Re: Rides

So B20 is one of the best mixes, correct?
When I said "For all of us", I meant all of the people that didn't know it.
Thanx Squlidjian.
I didn't know there was more than B8 or B20.

Re: Rides

The further away from B8 you go, the less your cymbal will sound like a trash can lid.

Re: Rides

Haha!
That means my S.P. cymbals that came with the set must be
AT LEAST B-40 right?
Does anyone know what they use in Paiste's alpha or Signature seires?

Re: Rides

They call it "patented signature bronze", but I would guess it is in the neighborhood of a B20 mix.

Re: Rides

Alright,
I found that Signature uses
a patented bronze for thier signature series (both dark and traditional series)
And Alpha uses B8....
But they are professional quality.

Re: Rides

Der Trommler, you DO know that Paiste uses B8 for 2002, right? There's lots of amazing B8 cymbals.

And B8, B12, and B20 are the most common, and they could very well be the only types of cymbal bronze alloy; I've never seen anything else. B8 is technically and sonically "worse" than the rest, but many other factors, like lathing, bow slope, hammering, and bell size contribute to the sound and sound quality.

Re: Rides

Thats does make sence.
It just depends how much the manufacture cares
about the B8 cymbal and how much they want to fix it's reputation.
Paiste must care quite a bit.

What about the Mega Bell ride? I love it, mostly just for the bell...
