Hi hats- just for fun Hello, I hope I'm not the only person who has thought of this. What do you think would happen if someone would use either two splash cymbals, or two rides, instead of 12"- 14" hats(assuming the stand can support a ride!)? It's just a question, I'm probably not going to try this. Do you this the splashes would work, or just be a stupid sound? I've always thought about it. |

Re: Hi hats- just for fun If you've ever used march cymbals its probably going to be kind of like that. |

Re: Hi hats- just for fun Maybe, but if you crash the top hi hat, it's not like crashing the crash cymbal(lol, redundancies), so perhaps maybe not? |

Re: Hi hats- just for fun Almost any thing should work as long as its not too big. Then it would respond real slow |

Re: Hi hats- just for fun I thought of it many moons ago.
If I was to only use the snare and bass with a pair of 20's as hi-hats, it would sound like a marching band. |

Re: Hi hats- just for fun At Zildjian's website, they have "Z-Videos". There is one of JJ Johnson of the John Mayer group. On that particular tour he says he's using an 18" constantinople crash for the top hat and an 18" "A" rock crash for the bottom hat. Of course he balanced that with a 24" light ride.

Re: Hi hats- just for fun I used a pair of 16'' crashes. It ws sort of like them but a little slower response. It was kind of cool to open them and crash the top one pretty hard and then make them barley touch. together the sonded alot like if you take marching cymbals, put them together, and played them with a snare stick. Ill try it with some of the schools splashes later today. |

Re: Hi hats- just for fun Don't know about the splashes, but I've tried that with a 21'' AA dry Ride and my old 20'' Pst3 ride. Didn't sound too good, mainly because the AA ride is very pingy. Dunno, might work, then again, might not... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
