17 or 16 inch crash

Hey everybody,
Was just wondering - i need a crash cymbal - my only one at the moment is a Stagg 14'' crash, is it advised to compliment it with a 16'' before I get anything else? I've had a look at some 17 inches and I'm kinda leaning towards that. Is there a marked difference, like would a 17'' crash still have a nice crash or would it be moving towards a crash/ride more? Just wondering if any of you with 17'' crashes would be able to share your sounds and experiences with bigger crash cymbals. I play standard rock music/acoustic rock btw
Cheers, Oli

Well really the only difference is that the cymbal will ring out a little bit longer. Also the cymbal will have a deeper tone to it. My advice is to go play the cymbal before you buy it. its the smartest thing to do. and bring your other cymbal as well. so that you can hear them togethr.

I agree with Buddy if you intend to keep your 14" then test it out with the potential cymbals you want. If your upgrading all your cymbals (and getting rid of the 14 as soon as possible) then I would say just pick the best sounding crash there is. Also rides sound like rides mostly because they are made differently, only partially because of size. I have heard great sounding 20" crashes before that sound almost nothing like rides. Just pick what you like

I think both sizes are nice crashes. AS mentioned earlier the 17" will be a little darker and have just a little more presence. But either one is a good choice.
