I recently purchased the exotic mallet set from Steve Roberts at
Featuring Tuned to Scale Tongue Drums by Steve Roberts* From the craftsman to your door. I created this video to give a demo of the different types of mallets you can use. The first set of mallets are tipped with cork dipped in latex. the second set is just wood dowels that have their tips dipped in latex. The last set is wood dowels with polymer balls on the tips. Each set of mallets produces a unique tone. The cork mallets produce a soft, warm tone. The wood dowels are a little louder than the cork and create a very cool wood on wood percussive sound. The polymer ball mallets make the tongue drum vibrate the most giving a loud, deep, full tone with a longer sustain.
