New video clip Hey folks, I've just finishing putting together various bits of old kit into one cool sounding set. If you've seen my other kit in the gallery you'll know I use a fair few cymbals, so I thought I'd keep this kit simple and a bit more traditional.
Anyway, this afternoon I had a bit of a blast on it and made a video. I was going to edit it because there's a few dodgy moments in there, but I think I'd rather present it as it is - because that's the way I play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rm6k5uq9NA
More coming.... |

That's some solid work there. Your kit sounds great, althought personally I'd like to hear the toms ring a little bit more. I really like how you incorporated the cowbell and the bell of your cymbals. A lot of drummers these days forget to utilize these things so good job there.
For some constructive criticism, I think you need more variety in your playing - maybe some more dynamic, different rhythms or fills, or just mixing things up a bit. Your playing was solid but there were times in the video where everything just sounded the same. Other than that, great work! |

The floor tom's ringing quite nicely I reckon. I'll still be tweaking the kit, only just got it together and couldn't wait to get playing it. Quote: |

When I play at home I feel restricted because the woman next door starts hammering on the walls. It's really frustrating, but for that reason I was just playing around the same basic thing and didn't feel like expanding too much. Still, working within restrictions could produce interesting results so I won't get too pi**ed off with the situation. |

| | | Oh, I'm sorry to hear about that. It's never fun to play when people don't want to hear you. Maybe you can try soundproofing the room? |

| | By the way, I've uploaded a few more ( http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=davenhurst ) - it's basically just the same again, a few nice moments but generally unchanging.
I'm a big fan of repitition, sometimes I play the same thing for ages - floats my boat. Sometimes it sounds good, sometimes it doesn't but I guess it could be quite boring to watch.
I feel a thread about repitition coming on...... |

Plus I'm skint. I do use a practice room sometimes but it's a half hour walk away. Poor me. Only kidding, could be a lot worse. |

| | | Well it looks like you're working nicely with what you have.
Repetition is great for practice and to drill stuff into your head, but I wouldn't really recommend it for drum solos. |
