Hi everyone,

I'm new here. My name is Thomas Grosset and I'm 16 years old.

This was pretty much my first time recording in the studio for my own benefit. I got someone who had a recording studio in their basement to record for me which cost quite a bit but was worth it. I'm pretty pleased with the overall sound of the recordings, but you can't really hear the bass drum very well unless you have some good speakers. There were some timing issues in the playalong, but thats normally what happens with most people.

Jazz drum solo. This solo is being played in a free form, rubato solo style.

wow!I was impressed...the solo was ok,but I was really feeling the 2nd song.There really isn't much to critique here,I like your chops,good movement around the set and I think you are progressing well for your age,how long have you been playing?Nice patterns on that ride and good control man!Very well done for a 16 y/o.Welcome to DSC and I hope to hear more from you bro!Do you dabble in any other styles beyond jazz?

Hey lastditch,

The solo wasn't supposed to have any sort of structure to it. As a matter of fact, I tried to avoid having an ostinato while I was playing. Lots of people enjoyed the way it was executed while others thought that it might have been better if it had more of a foundation to support it and totally understand that.

I've been playing for roughly 4-5 years. I like to play and listen to many styles of music but I really enjoy jazz the most.

Oh,I understand the solo,it was very well done,the song w/ the full ensemble just really puts a shadow on it.The solo seemed more an exercise to me rather than a solo.I found myself counting most of the time.When I see "solo" i wanna see dude just chucking the wood,you know?Be careful w/ your wording...some people on these forums get very critical...I'm not saying any names...

I say solo...didn't care for I liek mroe umm in your face typa stuff from drummers with some soft areas also though but not all...umm iono how to explain it. I'll give it to you fo rteh jazz peice though I liekd teh end when you did somethin other than ride/yo went to the snare. I dont' really play jazz myself..sometimes I throw it in for fun but yea :P

your jazz drumming is pretty good my friend. I really enjoyed the song and was really feeling your groove. Excelent work.
