Re: The best drummers in the world Man I really don't agree - one of my biggest pet hates is drummers just relying on fast double kick work and forgetting about everything else - it's the runation of modern drumming in my opinion - wheres the hand to hand with these guys - what about Billy Cobhem that has mastered the double kick yet doesent sacrafice real technique - these guys with double kick are playhing for the un-informed and is a poor signal to send out young lads starting that, will bypass all the real work and head straight for the double kick - without the double kick in these vids how crap would Lar's be? / Just an opinion of course :0) Phil. |

Re: The best drummers in the world Hey Phil, It's the 200 BPM Dash. There is a sense of not being able to create. So then it becomes a competition as to who can get as many Beats in Per Minute, just to break the Guinness World Book of Records. But still it's a different cup of tea with the X-Generation. When too many drummers are doing the same thing, it's no longer a competition, it's a Fad.
The part of creativity is therefore, GONE. At least there are many combination's with Rudiments, Creativity and combination's.
Two Bass drumming where originally to be used as adding that extra flavor within that creative combination of rudiments. Fist Bass was tuned higher than the second to get that extra lower beat.
Today it's all about speed. As the old saying goes "Speed Kills" like the signs posted on the highways. |

Re: The best drummers in the world I agree - just find the focus in the wrong place - speed is just so overrated without taste and technique should check out Brian Downey early stuff from Lizzy Live and Dangerouse - Jazz technique in a rock world class - I'm all for the oldish school of drumming where real feel is everything - guess I'm part of the hand to hand generation rather than the foot to foot / P. |

Re: The best drummers in the world Yeah man, it's just getting out of hand. Well I guess it's "different strokes for different folks" in drumming land.
Been playing 50years and seen all the eras changing. But back then from the 50', 60's and even the 70's, it was at a paced change, today with all the technology, it's moving too damn fast. Not even bubble gum music and disco, was creative, but even I was able to survive it.
Well maybe when the BG's got a hold of disco, it was a little creative, they at least added some rhythm to it. Other than that, thumbs down.
Got to get back into nature and commune with mother earth once in a while to appreciate life.
Even Mustang Sally had to slow her Mustang down. |

Re: The best drummers in the world That's just something I found on YouTube.
Wanted to see what reactions it would get. I am the first to admit that I am a little nuts, but just a little.
Good showmanship is not easily accomplished with the 200bpm style of drumming. Not even if they were ambidextrous.
Nothing wrong with eating nuts, their good for you unless your allergic to them. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
