Hey groovers

Nice to be here. I'm Nigel, posting from Brisbane Australia. I've been drumming for 15 years. I'm currently sitting behind a 2009 Tama Superstar Fusion in 'Sugar White'. So pretty. I got it fitted with all Evans heads (EC2 on the toms, power centre reverse dot on the snare). I prefer to use Paiste cymbals, although I do have one Zildjian crash that I just love the sound of. I play mostly Funk, Soul, Reggae and some Pop. I enjoy most genres except Metal, C&W and plastic meaningless manufactured chart driven effluent. Massive Attact, Blue Six, Underworld would be amongst my most listened to at the moment.

Welcome to the forum, D00d. You come across as assertive and slightly eccentric. I particularly enjoy your description "plastic meaningless manufactured chart driven effluent".

I almost bought a superstar. I was leaning toward the blue one, can't remember what the wrap color is called, though. The white looks sweet, though. It's especially great with the nickel hardware, but I ended up going for a Mapex Meridian Maple. What series Paiste do you use? I've got Sabian Xs20s and Paiste Alphas.

How do you like the reverse dot? I just switched back to a Remo emporor from one of those. I couldn't stand it

Post a lot and happy drumming

Hey butter, yeah, the Emporer is my pick. The Evans is a quality product, no doubt about that, and the sound really suits what I'm playing right now, I just think the Emporer was more 'snappy'. I'm smoking a pipe in a velvet smoking jacket, wearing Turkish slippers at 7:30 a.m, I guess I am eccentric lol. (JOKE!)

Re: Hey groovers

Haha are you my neighbor??

Indeed. I actually had that same head set up, but I was using EC2 SSTs. My reverse dot was good for a while, I may have just had a defective head, but the dot actually came off during practice one day. I took off the head and stuck it back on, but it was a lousy solution. I sounded okay for about 2 more weeks until the adhesive wore out and I was left with a dot-less reverse dot. The SSTs are still sounding good, but the honeycomb pattern on the inside of the head is chipping off and falling into the drum. Not a bad thing I guess, but kind of messy

Are you using SSTs or regular EC2s?
