Hey everybody!

I am back into drumming after taking off over twenty years to raise a family. I played for ten years before setting my sticks down. I am determined to be a proficient drummer again. I was never very good at reading music before but want to make sure this time that my fundementals are excellent. I have a Yamaha Standard electronic drum kit right now for practicing on and will get an acoustic soon.

There is a guy here locally that seems to be a really excellent drummer and teacher but he teaches open handed drumming. What do you think about that? I am a little concerned about learning a totally new technique.

What do you think is the best way for me to get my chops back and build a solid foundation?
