Ey.

Well to make things simple I have sparked a growing intrest in playing the drums, so I would be most thankfull if you could gimmie any info on starting, what I need to get or what I need to do and what I should look at, I just thought it would be best if i talked to the comunity which surrounds the drums.

I'll be a active member on this forum now me thinks, but a newbie one at that so sorry if some of the "Nooby" stuff i say might piss a few of you of.

So everything and anything about drums, I would love you to inform me about!

Very excited about starting and thanks for all the help.

P.S If you need to ask anything to help you see what i should do in the way of drums ask away, and i'll reply!

That Demon Man - The Shiny 1!

Hi, good to have some fresh blood joining in.

I guess to know how to help you, we need to know more about you. Are you getting lessons? What sort of kit do you have? Credit card details, that sort of thing.

I just need a sort of rough guide on where to head and what to get. Im going to get a practice pad first any advice on which one i should get or does it realy mater?

Mate? Just where do you come from mate. I'm from Perth Western Australia, that part of the Mate speaking population.

Anyhow, to answer your question regarding pads, the main object is bounce ie: how much will your stick bounce off the pad.

Standard rubber pads with wood backing will give you heaps of bounce. They are great for getting your chops together and you will hear everything you play on it very clearly.

Most other pads will be made to give a more natural feel. They're a bit more sluggish and replicate the feeling of a drum more.

I'd suggest getting the rubber pad, as it will help you to learn all the fiddly, little things you're trying to pick up sooner and stop you from losing interest.

Speaking of not losing interest, when are you gonna get yourself a kit then? Start looking around at new kits on the market and do some research. Form an opinion on what you want to get started on.

I've personally had lot of experience with the pearl export which has the exact same shells as the pearl forum (it's just a hardware downgrade not that you need to worry about those things at this stage). They've done me pretty well as my forth kit up til now, might be worth a thought.

What kind of music are you into?

P.s. you're also gonna need a metronome. I'd strongly suggest buying an electric one. If your local store doesn't carry cheap electric ones, look around, I picked mine up for the same cost as a standard.

Ok

Thank for all the adivce mate! Oh and the Mate is the english type em ey brit!

Yep im going to buy myself a new kit soon and looking around at the moment any more advice on that subject? I wanted a practice pad so i could learn some beats and just get a feel for it.

My music...

Well im a massive rock fan, all aspects of it specially the oldies!

Well there are far to many bands to list..but there are two major ones which I have listened to religiously for aslong as I can remember The ramones Nd Led Zep. On the drums I want to do rock stuff, specially with the old punk rock feel. But to be honest with you it's not just old stuff im loving more recent things like Muse, Libs and shambles..Ahh...Jesus hate this question i normally ramble on for hours about music, but to put things into a conclusion I want to do rock on the drums!

Shiny D

P.S very nice forum i'll defo be staying with this one!

Well ol' chap, as I stated before, the best thing you can do is get down to your local music dealer and suss out all the sets in your price range. Start forming your own opinion.

Pearl forum or export would be my bet, but most companies make a good starter set, Ludwig accent, tama swingstar, mapex mars to name a few.

Good luck with your search. Pip pip! Cheerio!
