Drumming again after 35 years

Hi all,my name is Ken and I am from the UK.In the sixties I was a pro drummer with some well known rock bands, made some records and toured and generally had a great time. Two years ago I was persuaded to sit in with a rock band at a relatives wedding, and wow did i get the bug back.I have now purchased a kit and am practising a lot and find even after all those years i am not too bad!The only drag is having to play on a starters kit as I cammot justify spending a lot on a new kit.Drums have changed since my day and I want to upgrade my cymbals, what would you suggest(low budget)? Thanks guys and its great to be in a forum mixing with drummers again.Regards Ken

Hi, thanks for the reply, I gigged with clapton , Beck and played in the in crowd with Steve howe and Keith west.Auditioned for the searchers when their drummer departed but I could not harmonise so did not get the job.Offered a job by Bowie and turned it down(big mistake)and played with lots of other bands around London. I can only justify spending about £100 on cymbals at this stage, but I will practise and if I can form a band I will upgrade again. Do you drum with a band and what kit do you use? Best regrads

Wow, thats a lot of classic bands.
100 pounds, is like 200 U.S. I think. So, I would say your best bet for cymbals is probably some sabian B8 or XS 20. I don't know if you have sabian in England or if the prices are similar but I've played both and they are actually pretty good for low end cymbals.
yeah, i've been in a rock band for about a year playing for 5, the bands kind of shaky because were in high school and the kids in it are idiots but, oh well, I'm also in the school jazz band. I play a tama superstar 5 piece, with sabian aax cymbals.

Hi, No I did not tour with Clapton,I gigged with him twice in the early Sixties, his Yardbird years, but toured with a lot of good guys.My band played on the Chuck Berry tour and his supporting group Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes had a brilliant drummer, has anybody heard of him? Regards to all from a cold and wet UK

Hi, the only records I played on were 4 singles by Four plus one and the in crowd .Also one album, one of the singles reached the lower 20s in the british charts.I believe the album and a couple of the singles were released in Europe and the States.I actually did more live gigs and tours than recording.Cheers to all
