Smile Music MAINE-iac

Hi gang,

My name is Mike. I've been playing for about 25 years but technically it's only been about 15 years. I had a five-year stretch where I couldn't play due to a neck injury that left me paralyzed for a bit and then after my surgery, the neuromancer, er, I mean neurosurgeon said I couldn't do much of anything for a long time. I also had a few years off due to military service. Now I have my set back together (Tama for now). I would like to get a nice DW set but that's not always easy when one has a champaigne taste and a beer budget.

I am a self-taught drummer, a HUGE jazz lover and classic rock as well. My favorite drummers include Dave Weckl, Omar Hakim, Neil Peart, Tony Williams, and others.

That's about it for now. I hope to make some new friends here and wish you all the best for 2007!

Mike

That's pretty amazing your still drumming after all that! And a DW, who doesn't want one lol! That being said and being a jazz and classic rock lover myself, welcome to the forums.

Thanks, ek. I've been practicing chops with some horse-leg drumsticks (that way the 5A's are real light when I get on the kit...hehehe) and am learning some new and interesting sounds from my collection of Rush CDs. Neil Peart does some very interesting things and so i've taken it upon myself to learn most of their music over the last 25 years. I love his creativity and innovation.

Take care and thanks for the welcome! Have a great week!

Mike

Great to have you on board Mike.

DW= Drool Worthy.

I guy traded a six piece, double bass, charcoal stain kit into my local store because of the wife and kid (I told the missus I'd have divorced her first hehe). They gave him $21,000 for it and they sold it the next week.

Hi Skinslapper,

Thanks for the welcome! I picked my jaw up off the floor finally...when it hit the floor, it broke off and rolled under the couch so it took me a while to get it back. That happened when I saw the price tag on that set. Holy bankruptcy, Batman! I can't imagine spending that much on a kit. If I had that kind of disposable income I would but as it is I can't even afford to pay attention. Be that as it may, I have been considering buying just a couple pieces at a time and mounting them on a rack system so that I don't have to rely on a bass drum mount.

I currently have a Tama setup that I bought years ago when my friend wanted me to play in his band. It's just a middle of the road birch set but it sounded great when I threw some new Evans heads on it. It's overdue again for some new ones. I haven't been keeping up on technology where it concerns drum heads so you can be sure you'll see a post in the other forums concerning what is out there.

I've been perusing the forums and it would appear that there are some really cool people here. I like that. Some posts about pet peeves had me chuckling pretty good.

Well, I hear a cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee calling my name and whispering sweet nothings in my ear so I'm off to satiate my desire for some foo-foo toasted almond coffee. Take care and I look forward to talking with you some more.

Good day!

Mike

Bear in mind, that's $21,000 Australian.

That's about $16,500US.
