recovering metalhead

just joined, happy to be here. I started playing in 1984, on a cb 700 5 pc. in my basement. now I'm 34 and happy to be playing more than metal. I now have a starclassic preformer, and stage custom. I don't like the stage custom, even though it looks cool, it has lame playability. I'm thinking I might order a starclassic bubinga 7 pc, with the warlord masai snare. I like the A CUSTOM series cymbals, but I think all the manufacturers have thier good points. The drumset I am thinking of ordering, I have gotten several quotes for; they all come in 4k for the shells. I found a guy in denver colorado, who says the 2008 performer birch/bubinga shell package is about the same in sound, but the inner plys are the bubinga, so the awesome look is somewhat affected. But the price is 2400 for the 7 pc configuration, with the warlord snare. I'm kinda a sucker for tama drums, I bought my first tama set in 1989, it was a rockstar pro 9 pc dbl bass, and that kit got me through 1994, and a TON of shows. I didnt play alot between 1995 and 1999. Then I got hooked up with a really cool country/metal band called REXWAY. you can download the album I am on called county10 from alink on thier myspace page. Then I left the band and the released LAST CALL SCARS also available for free download. I personally recomend the county 10 album(of course) well, if you have any thoughts let me know. otherwise... HELLO!!

Re: recovering metalhead

Hey man, I am new here also. I have been searching for the right kit for the last year. Have played Yamaha Maple Customs for 12 years. Tried to order DW, way too much and long wait, Gretsch custom was not so custom after all, Ddrum were real pricy.. etc....So I started looking into custom drums from smaller companies. Well I settled on SJC Custom drums out of Massechussets. They are the coolest people...willing to do whatever you want. My set consists of 7x10, 8x12, 9x13, 14x14, 16x16, 20x20 kick, 7x14 10 ply snare. Cost around 4500.00. All toms have claw style wood hoops. These drums have a dynamic that I have been looking for for years. I play all kinds of music from hard rock to Doo Wop...I am set to pick them up this week...Moral of the story....give the little guys a chance. And support America! I also play A Customs...Do a google search for custom drums. You will be blown away by how many great companies there are! You can check out a photo of my snare on the SJC Custom website in the gallery/snares page. Its the second snare-white marine pearl. Peace! Anthony

Re: recovering metalhead

Hi guys welcome to the forum.

We've got brady down here for custom sets, other than that we're waiting for ever. Brady has an enormous price tag so, I'm looking into mapex pro-m. Big choice of sizes, small price.
