Smile Hello all/ new to drumming/ dont even own a drum

hello all from NC. I'm new to drumming (dont even own a set) but i am told that I have " natural talent". I'll probably get burned for this but i'm also pretty good at rockband drums and i figured that i would start drumming for real.

My main influence is Paul Bostaph of Slayer and now Testament. I also enjoy most hardcore and deathmetal music.

I'm in need of a kit that is carried by Music and Arts center because, well, my uncle is a manager and i can get a large discount so my price range will be 650 and under.

Thanks to all who can suggest a good kit.

I can recommend Pearl forum as a good starter kit for metal. The poplar shells are the same as the export line and the hardware is very versatile. Also the price should allow you to get that monster kit you want.

Re: Hello all/ new to drumming/ dont even own a drum

Being a sucker for double bass and being a sucker for buying way too much is another.
My recommendation is to start with a standard 5 piece kit... I have my reasons as well.
The standard drumheads that come with will not withstand metal pounding for too long.
two drum heads for each drum + $10 to $20 each drumhead = empty pocketbook. Plus having way too much in front of you can hamper learning. If you end up wanting double bass later get a double pedal. One double pedal is far less in weight than a whole bass drum.

Congrats for finding an excuse to pick up drums... hopefully you will find it to be rewarding.

Ok so a pearl kit is the main consensus? now i just gotta find the right one.

yea i decided against the double bass mainly because i thought it would hamper my learning as well.

What's a nice pearl kit and some nice heads i can get, that will keep it under 650?

There are lots of starter brands. I tend to prefer the Pacific line....

Pearl, Tama, Ludwig, Ddrum... there are lots of good brands.

Head over to musiciansfriend and within their search options you can narrow down drum sets by price. Check out the user comments and you are on your way.

As far as heads are concerned... depends on the company and all... some take the time to put on decent heads... others choose poor quality ones. The ones you get with the kit sould work from starting out...

Hi airsoftdrummer,

Keep in mind the options these guys post you. They surely know what their talking about.
I owned a cool Pearl Set back in the 70's for playing hard rock and it sure sounded great. Pearl is a good option for a starter kit.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

Try a pulse pro double bass pedal, I think my beaters are switched, I fly on them... only $60, you want cymbals right?
