Talking What Drum Set Should I Buy???

Hi, this is my first time posting!!! I currently have a Yamaha Stage Custom 5 piece drumset made from Birch. I am a R&B style drummer and I need a jazz setup with short toms and I want the set to cut threw other sounds. I am currently thinking of buying one of these sets.

1. Mapex Pro M Pop 22 7 piece Maple
2. Gretsch Renown 5 piece Maple
3. Tama Superstar Custom Hyper-Drive 6 piece Birch
4. Tama Starclassic 5 piece Maple

I really want to have a set with 6 pieces or more and maple shell. I am trying to take my drumming to the next level so, I think my set should step up also. I'm not sure if the superstar would do the job with Birch shells, and thats what I already have. The Mapex Pro M has everything I want, but I've heard bad things about Mapex and some good, but not sure if I should get one. The other sets are 5 piece and I don't really want to spend all of that money on just a 5 piece set. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

TO IRIDER25 If I were you I would seriously look into the Gretsch set. Gretsch Bearing edges are
what I read the other day are cut different than the other sets so they will sound different. If you are going to play jazz they might just fit in, I think they'll be what your looking for and I've been playing over 40 years and I would take Gretsch over the others if I were playing JAZZ
Let me know GOOD LUCK SLINGERLAND

Thanks, I will look into Gretsch, but I did see that Pearl also made some good drums for R&B or Jazz. But thanks for the input.

Irider, I was glad to see the Gretsch Renown set on your list. I think it is one of the best bangs for your buck going right now. You can spend more and not get the quality of this set at this price. Also right before Christmas if you bought a 5 piece set at G.C. they through in some extras including an extra tom. Happy Shopping... D

Re: What Drum Set Should I Buy???

In my research I found the sonor 3007 had the thickest and most layers in a maple shell for the price and everyone raves about them.

Sound great in the shop too. Good luck.
