Old timer

Hello all, I'm an old timer who is self taught and cannot read a note of music but have been playing for over 30 years now. Did the band thing as a kid for 3 years and had fun, but enjoy just jamming and playing along with others as the mood strikes! Good exercise too!

Re: Old timer

Hey Inferno,
I'm into a lot of old rock n roll, christian rock, southern rock, pop and such. I've had a 5 piece Ludwig Rockers kit for about 7 years now and really like it. I've got 14" Zildjian heavy beat high hats that date back to my "band years" and a 16" Zildjian crash (heavy) GREAT sustain and projection from the same kit I used to have. To compliment them I have a 20" Players Ride by Paiste and a 16" Paiste Innovations short crash that I absolutely love! Bright crisp with a short decay and really projects without having to beat the heck out of it.
In my band years I had a 9 piece Tama kit with all Zildjian cymbals and a Ludwig Ghost foot pedal. (I miss that pedal!!)
Looking forward to looking around the site and hope to see ya on!

Re: Old timer

Its cool to talk to experienced players, We have seen and heard pretty much everything!
I recently have started going to clubs and checking out the new and up coming players.
I don't know if it's me but I have not seen anything to write home about. Yet!

Re: Old timer

Welcome to the forum davecookster.

Good to have another veteran drummer here at DSC.

Been playing 50+ years myself, also self taught. Some of us are born with it while others just can't afford to go to music school or get lessons.

Today the younger generation is lucky. With the internet and such.

So look around and have fun here at the forum.

Cookster,
Ever play an Allman Brothers? They're close to my heart, and in my old blood.

Re: Old timer

I just recently came back from New York and got to check out a really tight and musically inclined Jazz band at The Garage. You can tell they have been playing together a long time.
Ive been playing 40+ years myself. The best thing I ever did was learn how to read music.
It got me alot of paying gigs.
