I don't understand "lowest to highest fundamental." What's "fundamental"?

OK - hope you're either a science teacher, or know one...
The Snare Drum
Basically, this talks a load of formulae and stuff, but it means the frequency at which the vibrations / movement of air within the drum produce the sound. In effect, some drums allow you to tune the drum to produce a lower tone than others. I'd guess the differences are fairly small, but given all other inputs being equal, brass snares allow a slightly lower tone than a steel snare.
I think.
Feel free to work out the formula and prove me wrong!
