Hello Fellow Drummers!

Hello Fellow Drummers. I just found out about this site while I was at work surfin the web on my phone. I have been away from my Love of Drums since High School, I graduated in 1990 and am just now getting back into the Drum World. I just ordered a Tama 6 piece Super Star Hyper drive kit with Zildjian A Custom Cymbals a week ago and Im still waiting for everything to be shipped to my local music store that I bought them from. Any info or reviews on this kit, cymbals, tips and what type of heads I should put on them would be greatly appreciated. I just registered so I don't have any info in my profile. I will update that with info and pics as soon as I can. Looking forward to getting to know my fellow Drum Lovers. Like I said, any input on my kit, cymbals and types of heads to use will be of great help. Thanks.....................Drum Animal.

Re: Hello Fellow Drummers!

Welcome to DSC! TAMA has discontinued that set -- did you get your order in just before that? I know some of those sets are still available in the stores.

A guy on this site called BUTTER has been looking at that set (without the cymbals). I bet he could tell you plenty about the drums. He might want to know where you got it. If you'll post an answer, I'll try to get word to him.

Sorry I can't tell you more about it.

Well, for the two weeks I priced around and looked at this set I heard nothing about it being discontinued. Guitar Center said nothing about it and the guy who owns the store I ended up buying them through said nothing about it. In fact, he called Tama directly last Tuesday to make surw they had it in stock before I ordered it on Wednesday. I'm expecting it any day now.

Thanks for the information, Animal!

I relayed your information to Butter, and I suggested he drop by your thread here to answer your questions about the set.

You must be excited! What finish did you get?

Re: Hello Fellow Drummers!

Yes, I am Very excited! A little bummed though cause everything came in and I could of brought it home today, but they sent the wrong cymbal package. I ordered Zildjian A Series Customs and they sent the standard A Series. Stopped and got a peek at the snare. Absolutely Beautiful! I got the Snow White Pearl with Black Nickle Shell Hard Ware. Bringing them home tomorrow! I will Deffinately have pics up soon! Hopefully in the next couple days. I need input on Skins! Remo Pin Stripes or Evens Hydrolics? I'm thinkin Remo's? Gotta stop at Guitar Center on my way home tomorrow to get whatever I decide to go with for skins and probably a drum dial..

Re: Hello Fellow Drummers!

Animal,
Wow! You must be drooling!

I don't know a lot about heads, but a lot of guys talk about Remo Pinstripes or Evans EC2s for batter heads. In the "Drumsticks, Drumheads, and Hardware" section of the forum there is a thread called "Your favorite drumheads" which may be helpful. In the same section on the next page is a section called something like "How to Apply Your Drumheads to Your Drum." That's not quite the right words, but that's the idea.

The Drum Tuning Bible and drum tuning videos by Bob Gatzen are excellent resources. If you can't find those, let me know, and I'll help. The drum dial may help and won't hurt.

Unless your hands are shaking too much.

Re: Hello Fellow Drummers!

I think you will be happy with the A customs. I play the A customs all the way around except for my splashes. I use the K custom hybrids for splashes. Just keep in mind the A Custom is a thinner brighter sounding line than the regular A's or the K's, so if you are a heavy hard hitter the chance or cracking one is better with the A Customs than some of the others. I have the 14" hats my crashes are a 15" two 16" and a 17" with a 20" ride. Enjoy the new set up once you get it all in.

Re: Hello Fellow Drummers!

Hello Hello Hello!!!!! Well, I finally got it up and put together after bout six hours. Still tweekin the tuning. Seem to be gettin a lot of ring. I could use some pointers on that too btw. Even top and bottom, less tension on the bottom than top, less tension on the top than the bottom? So far the only thing I'm happy with sound wise is the snare and the cymbals. I know I'll get it all tweeked in sooner or later. It's time for a little nap right now though. She sure is Purrrttyy!

Re: Hello Fellow Drummers!

hey D00d welcome to the forum

i wanna see some pics of that, can you get any up??
you have helped me clear up a bit of confusion ive been having with my drum choices, though without meaning to but thanks.

like xtreme said, if you have any questions about the set, id be happy to answer them if i can.
my personal preference in heads is EC2s, but i usually play pinstripes, only because i havent used up all the remos i have since i tried EC2s. once i use them all up, i will probably switch to the evans.
as for tuning, i tend to go less tension on top, more on bottom. with those shallow toms you should get a really punchy sound if you do this. thats how i like it, but experiment, youll figure out something awesome.

happy drumming,
butter
