Re: G'day everyone Welcome to Drumset Connect, Alan! It's great to have another drummer from down under! We've got several already, including our moderator, skinslapper. You may even find a couple of Australian bands hiding in these threads.
You're an experienced drummer with a great kit. I'm wondering what genres of music you prefer, and if you have specific drumming goals at this time.
Yeah, learning is pretty much what we're about here. Please read some threads, and when you're ready to post, go right ahead. Start new threads if you're of a mind to. No matter what the problem, we've got some drummers who are ready to help with just about anything.

Percussion is power! | G'day Mate,
At the moment I am rehearsing with a Rock & Roll band, that I hope will expand into more Rock than Roll, I'm having mixed feelings about this band, however.
I have been playing long enough to know, that if it ain't fun, It ain't worth it, & I'm not having fun.
Whereas the last band was great fun, right from the first note we played together, so, I'll keep you posted on my progress, if any.

Re: G'day everyone G'day all,
Just an update, I have dropped out of the R&R band, was just too hard, the music did not flow, the bass player was a lead guitar player in a previous life, so I'm between bands, for now.
Have a great week everyone. |

Re: G'day everyone You've got the courage to move on, and you took action. Man, that bass player sounds like a true scary demon type! You got out while you're still alive! You've saved yourself! |

Al. | Greetings Al!
Always a pleasure to greet a fellow TAMA player, especially one from down under. Looks like with your experience, most of us can learn a few things from you! I play a 7-pc TAMA Starclassic Performer B/B kit, Sabian XS20 cymbals, Aquarian heads, Vic Firth and Ahead sticks. Looking forward to getting to know you. |

Welcome Al,
That reminds me of a bass player that we kicked out of the band beacuse the only bass lines he knew were for what we called R&B back in the days.
Two months latter I saw him on the tele playing for Patty LaBelle.
I still think he sucked anyway. The teams got to be together or em high. |

G'day Deanc54,
I have used TAMA drums since 1978, a set of Swingstar's in midnight blue, I still use them for practice, & they still sound good, although the original snare was crap.
So I thought maybe, after 30 years playing the same kit, I should update, that was when I decided on my Superstar Customs, & $2000.00 later, I was happily trying new heads, to help with the sound I wanted. I am using Evans EC2's on the tom batters, & a Power centre reverse dot on the snare, with a Hazy 300 on the reso side. The snare is OK, but, only just.
I am just a dance band drummer, but to me, the most important thing is the feel of the music that we play, after all if it don't feel good to us, it won't feel good to an audience, that we are expecting to dance.
I went to a drum show at our local music shop last night, checked out some handmade stave drums, made by a guy that lives in this area, & made from some of our local & overseas hardwood, man they were good, I would love to buy one, the timber is that hard, that they had some of the sound qualities of brass, but with the warmth of wood, but can't justify spending $700.00 on a new snare, when I'm between bands.
