Since Blink-182 broke up, it seems as if all drummer Travis Barker does is throw up in toilet bowls and pick fights with wedding planners. At least that's the impression you get watching the MTV reality series "Meet the Barkers," which follows his punk-rock newlywed life with former Miss USA Shanna Moakler and their children. It turns out Barker has actually been busy finishing work on his second Transplants album, "Haunted Cities." The group --
one of many that count the heavily tattooed Barker as a key member -- headlines the Warped Tour on Saturday at Piers 30/32.
Q: Do you feel like an old man on the Warped Tour?
A: I don't know. I'm 29 right now. If I was 30 I would.
Q: That makes sense.
A: That happens after the Warped Tour, so we're good.
Q: Weren't the Transplants supposed to be a side project to Blink-182? Next thing you know, your songs are in shampoo commercials.
A: I think Blink was over at that point. I'm glad we decided to stop playing together when things were really good. I think this is a new chapter. I really believe the new Transplants record is great, and I believe in it. So whatever I believe in, however big or small, it's what I stand for.
Q: So you don't care if you don't get the shampoo commercial account again?
A: No, I don't care. I don't care if we sell 100,000 records or 2 million records. Either way, I'm happy. We did good. I think it's so different, so sincere and so organic. It's real.
Q: The shampoo or the record?
A: The record.
Q: There's a line that goes, "Some of my friends sell records/ Some of my friends sell drugs." Is that autobiographical?
A: That's kind of what our whole band's about.
Q: But as far as I know, you're the only member of the band that's living in a huge mansion with a former Miss USA.
A: It's the American dream.
Q: I know. How did you get it?
A: I don't know. I'm not supposed to do s -- like that. But I was 16 and I tattooed my body so I couldn't fall back on anything. I purposely did that so I couldn't get a normal job.
Q: Is being on MTV every day a bit of an inconvenience?
A: At airports, yes.
Q: Where else?
A: Airports and malls. But I knew what I was getting myself into. Well, I didn't know what I was getting myself into, but as time went on, OK, I realized it was going to be a little bit worse than before. It was a lot worse, but everyone is so cool and so positive, I can't say s -- .
Q: The best part about the show is how everyone gets confused when they see your family.
A: People have accused me of being homeless. That's the best. Like, "Why do you always wear that one T-shirt?" It's like, I don't know, I don't even think about that. It's retarded what people think without knowing.
Q: What made you decide to follow in Ozzy Osbourne and Jessica Simpson's footsteps?
A: I just said "yes" one day.
Q: So you obviously put a lot of thought into how a weekly reality show about your family would affect your life and career and the future of your children.
