Talking Re: 100 Greatest Rock Drummers

I guess this is a pretty good list, though it's obviously missing some people. Like others said, list like these aren't right to everyone. So I was wondering, have any of you guys heard of a girl drummer? I meant to look into it but haven't, and the only one that comes to mind is Megan from The White Stripes. sorta looking for inspiration.

Hannah Ford and Terry Lynn Carrington are great. Check out Hannah Ford on You Tube. Listen to her play with Pandorum, something like "Sleight of Hand and Foot."

Re: 100 Greatest Rock Drummers

Have you heard live at Leeds album ? Moon plays his heart out , he was the perfect drummer for the who , he only had one style but there was no one to touch him . I suggest you give live at Leeds a listen and then try to emulate what he's doing , also take a look at the who's performance on the rolling stones rock and roll circus !

Re: 100 Greatest Rock Drummers

I love The Who. I love Keith Moon's drumming almost as much. Perfect for The Who? I think that's an understatement, if that's even possible

Like him, Ringo was perfect for the Beatles. Bonham was perfect for Led Zeppelin. Paice was perfect for Deep Purple.

I sometimes wonder if these guys were perfect for thier band only, or if they were just perfect in general. What if Bonham and Moon had ended up in the opposite bands somehow? Obviously the style and sound of both bands would change dramatically, but would we still view these guys as the phenomenal drummers they are?

Re: 100 Greatest Rock Drummers

I dont like lists that say "best drummer" because there can never be a best at something. All those guys are just guys who were in known bands. For all we know there is some guy/girl who never joined a band and he can play everything from all those people and then some he/she just never wanted to be in a band.

Now a list for a person influential drummers is a much more interesting list.
Take for instance my top 5 favorite drummers. Might not be the best out there technical wise but they influence me and thats all that matters to me.

1. Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan (Avenged Sevenfold)
2. Buddy Rich
3. Joey Jordison (Slipknot)
4. Lars Ulrich (Metallica)
5. Alex Van Halen (Van Halen)

Re: 100 Greatest Rock Drummers

My top ten out of the 100;

1. Peart
2. Portnoy
3. Paice
4. Bozzio
5. Palmer
6. Moon
7. McBrain
8. Powell
9. Rullo
10. Jordinson

After that it gets hard. I may be sacrilege, but I was never super impressed by Bohnam or guys like Peter Criss. I think the band's name made them more famous then their drumming. I think Jason is a better drummer then his father ever was. But I do like their music. (Zep/Kiss) The guys above, especially Peart and others have real control and depth, well maybe not Moon, who was out of control, but made it look like "Controlled Insanity." Powell had a controlled power and guys like Jordinson and a very controlled speed. No one will ever agree on a exact top 100, but for what it's worth, these are my first 10.
