Oldest drummer?

I'm just wondering how long drummers can play for before they retire. Who's currently the oldest professional drummer still doing gigs? I'm guessing it'd be someone like Buddy Rich.

no offinse but in case you dont know buddy rich is dead and he pased away back in the late 80's as I recall.
But a lot of the other drummers are still around like louie belson and a few others, it might be worth investigating.

In my opinon it would have to be charlie watts that plays for the roling stones he turned 65 this year. but I am sure there is someone out there that is older.

The late great Bernard "Buddy" Rich died April 2, 1987. Alittle off topic but I was 16 when Buddy passed. So I was bummed (I was/am a huge Buddy Rich fan) Then May 19,1987 my grandfather died. I was crushed.

Ed Cassidy born 1923 has allways been regarded as the worlds oldest rock drummer,, first in big bands, jazz bands, with Ry Cooder in the rising sons then on to Spirit with his step son Randy California up untill his death in 97
now just gives drum clinics, and sets in now and then with friends CTM

Arguably the greatest jazz drummer of all time, the legendary Buddy Rich exhibited his love for music through the dedication of his life to the art. His was a career that spanned seven decades, beginning when Rich was 18 months old and continuing until his death in 1987. Immensely gifted, Rich could play with remarkable speed and dexterity despite the fact that he never received a formal lesson and refused to practice outside of his performances.

Charlie Watts - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Rollingstones drummer matbe.

John "Mitch" Mitchell (9 July 1946 1 – 12 November 2008) was an English drummer, best known for his work in The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Only the good die young.

He was my Idol, Ive been drumming 50 years.
Some drummers never retire, they just fade away.

Re: Oldest drummer?

For your information Drummer Louie Bellson just died and the oldest probably best around for experience, and I know you KIDS don't know him or heard of him is JIM CHAPIN I believe he's 89
and if you look him up on you tube you'll see a man with a life time of experience and knowledge.
He knows more about the Moeller system because Moeller was his teacher. He shows the Moeller method on youtube. If your interested watch him and remember his age and ask yourself
DO YOU THINK YOU WILL BE THAT GOOD AT THAT AGE??????

Hey Mr. Slingerland, you've made a good point.

And I still say that great drummers don't die, the just fade away.
