I was marching fifth bass drum last year (in my senior year) and it was raining while we were marching out on the field. The bass drums had to march out on the field following eachother, then turn and walk forward to our spots. Well, the third bass drummer (which also happened to be the heftiest one) tripped and fell down, and her bass drum also launched itself and hit one of the snare players. It was great.

Then at another show, we were marching off of the field playing the cadence in a block formation, and we got to where we usually stop and the other drumline saw that the fifth bass drummer (me) was a chick and started freaking the hell out. Two of the guys asked me to marry them just for this reason...it was freaky.

Yeah...all of my "gig" stories are from marching band. Probably not as interesting >.< but oh well. I tried.
The first story reminds me of the three stooges.
The second on reminds me of you being on your own.

Re: Musician Stories

I played in the Battle of the bands competition at the Robin a 800 capacity venue and we were second band on we were called Un-Faith..an Original rock band. The drummer that filled the stage with his kit were last on and called Yellowstone...he said all the bands could use his kit...but not his cymbals...This band had brought a coach full of supporters and it was a public vote contest....I used my hi hats two crashes and my ride...the others were his cymbals four crashes a ride and effects...they did the sound check first and were terrible and the drummer sounded like he was building a shed but he had all his biker chums with him and they thought he was cool. we did our sound check and sounded Orsome..but we knew it was a non contest I was singing dual vocals ....so here is the funny bit when we went on The drummer had left his cymbals up..."Big mistake",,did i give that kit some welly ..i beat the **** out of it all the heads looked like the moon .and in the excitement i hit one of his 18" crashes with such force it cracked. The guy must have been wincing every time i hit those cymbals....I packed my bits of kit up and said to lads i had got the ****s and was getting off early....The Funny thing is i was also at the same time in another band and we had a support with non other than Yellowstone and the drummer recognised me as the guy who mashed his kit up...and cracked his cymbal he said I couldn't use his kit to the band and they had to pull out.......so he had the last laugh!
