Thanx Beatman

Great old flicks! I like digging into those old Goodman, Krupa & Rich films.
Very sorry to see the big bands go. I'm Particularly a fan of Duke Ellington.
Especially with Louis Bellson or Sam Woodyard on tubs.

Dear Lastditch;
Not everyone can be as young and wonderful as you apparently are. You will learn the value of musical history in time (I hope). Yes I enjoy listening to QUALITY drummers like Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Louis Bellson, Niel Peart, etc. I don't particularly enjoy most of the garbage drummers that I see you and some others cherish. There is a h*ll of a lot more to playing drums than trying to go fast as h*ll to try to impress some other insignificant drummer pals. Many of your young cohorts seem to have forgotten what your job is in the band. Try being the band driver instead of the loudest or fastest.
Who gives a rats *ss how fast you can go"???????
On that subject, I played double bass for over 20 years and played single and double stroke rudiments as well and as fast with my feet (heel down) as the rest of you. My focus, however was playing the music that the band needed.
I've never had to audition for a gig in my entire life. I was always good enough that people called me for the gigs. I was at one time given the 4 best drum teachers in Seattle at no charge. All the time I wanted to spend with all of them each week. I also played with some very big names while I was in Seattle. Some insignificant people that would not matter in your circle. Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, George Jones, Faron Young, Buck Owens, Susan Ray and several big Nevada show groups plus many, many more. Most of the Country people were before I was 22 years old.
I am currently playing in 3 different bands, -- (they called me), --a 6 pc classic rock group that is the best in this area, a 4 pc soft rock group that does extremely well, and a duo of mine that plays a little of everything from the 20's thru the 90's. Including swing, blues, rock, & jazz.
Gee I'm sorry to blow my horn so long. When you can report this kind of a history, let me know. I'll be holding my breath waiting for your reply.
All of us old farts do have a couple of things to contribute to this forum occasionally. But, for your sake, I will keep my mouth shut & let you instruct all of us on how to play drums from now on.

No Sh*t!! I'll bet Pearl will be saddened to hear that. Yes, I know Louis is dead. Like many of the truly great drummers--his great talent wil go on forever.

Re: very sexy lady

UPSTROKE your 100% RIGHT I'm a fan of Krupa,Rich,Bellson, and many more, my drum teacher met most of them when he was on tour in the 40's. I'm 57 and I guess I'm showing my age too considering that I've been playing longer than alot of these guys on this site. Someone told you that your posts are ancient NO! he's too young to appreciate them, what he knows is to BANG on his drums and cymbals as hard as his hero's do. And look at this other guy that answered and spelled Louis LOUISE is there something wrong here (he don't see it) UPSTROKE KEEP IN TOUCH

Re: very sexy lady

Hi Sling;
Of the 6 sets that I currently have, I would unquestionably pick the Bubinga. Like the Blue Burst kit, it is just a Gretsch Renown series kit, BUT--it has a unique sound, feel and power all it's own. Kind of like a combination of Maple, Birch and Walnut on steroids.
I apologize for rambling on. The place that the 6 pc. rock group practices in is custom built for just playing music in by our keyboard guy. (The keyboard player is a surgeon.) The place will hold well over 200 people for a party. Bear in mind that this is a classic rock group playing stuff like "Freebird". Not hardly your quiet little lounge group. The Bubinga set was so powerful that the sound man asked if I could bring in a softer kit. (I promise you, I'm NOT a loud drummer.) I changed it for the Mapex Pro-M kit. Now the sound guy can get a better balance. When I said that this Bubinga bass drum would push your hairline back at 40 feet, I wasn't kidding. By contrast though, the Catalina Maple snare is so loud that it can completely destroy your hearing in 8 bars.
