Food for thought

I think it's kind of sad that musicians who like this style of music feel that they must enter the room as a total social misfit. This guy is an excellent drummer,
One day not too far away, this style will meld into something beyond the image that it reflects today. It is undoubtedly going to be a great part of the music of the future.

I like this style of music and find myself quite socially adept.I have no tatoos no piercings and no hair.I'm the guy next door.Which guy did you check out? There are 5 vids posted here. The weirdest guy out of the group would be Jeff Willet,I'll admit, hes a bit out there but his playing is quite innovative.I'm just curious as to what video gave you the impression you got.I mean I do know what you are saying.I have met Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel many times and he is the epitome of social misfit.Yes,most metal heads want you to think they are deranged but I just don't know what in these videos prompted the remark. There is nothing sad about the Andy Taylor video. That video is a display of speed and control that few can match.Socially,he is as run of the mill as they come for a 25 y/o drummer.I think you are just clumping these drummers, who are death metal drummers, with your everyday MTV nu-metal drummers. There is a huge difference between say Tomas Haake's group Meshuggah and a social outcast band like System of a Down or Nine Inch Nails. These bands thrive on image, the bands I posted...Origin,Necrophagist,Diskreet,Aborted Existence and Meshuggah are bipolar opposites in thier desire to gain acceptance through pity.Their game is strictly brutallity. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen!Thanx for your feedback upstroke...talk to ya soon.

Tooooo Oooooold

I watched ALL of the videos. I'm not talking about some ones haircut or their choice of clothing. I'm just saying that I find it sad for a music style to promote
so much anger & violence. I understand that they are playing to an audience
that wants to hear what they are playing. What I don't see is any point in where they are all going. The music will eventually probably step up out of the sewer of humanity where this audience lives. I don't understand why you feed them.
UH-OH, now I'm in REALLY deep trouble-HUH???

I had to quote you again seeing as you forgot what you said. You said "This guy is an excellent drummer"...leaning toward one vid. That is why I aked which one you watched. There are 5 videos of 5 different drummers...As for being in trouble,I guess your own closed mindedness is punishment enough. These bands could be christian bands for all you know.I couldn't imagine saying to myself..."I don't understand why people sing the blues or sappy country songs..its so depressing and old fashioned. It drives men to drink and fight and kick thier dog. That makes blues and country crappy".Zeig heil! The sewer of humanity?YOU feed them...
I support heavy metal.

i give

Last ditch; Lets please not get in a p*ss*ng match like the one that just finished with a couple of other drummers. I'm not talking about the individual drummers. I'm merely commenting on the image & attitude of the metal music industry. That's merely my humble opinion. You are certainly entitled to like & play whatever kind of music you care to. I did not go all nazi on you & your negative attitude is not called for. Let's try to remember that this is a drummers forum. Not a metal drummers forum, or a blues drummers forum, or anything else. We're all supposed to help each other, not get into verbal fistfights. If that's what you want to do, let me just say right now--YOU WIN --I SURRENDER. I'm just not interested in going there. I only offered an opinion that you asked for from every one.

Man,its funny how you guys jump in on topics you know nothing about and get defensive after any disaggreement.I posted a thread with more straight up progressive drummers and you haven't commented on those. Now I have a negative attitude.Too funny.Lets remember you began with calling metal heads "social misfits" and saying metal will someday meld into something beyond its image. You said the metal audience lives in the sewers of humanity. How is this helping somebody? You have managed to still avoid the question...what in these videos prompted your remark?Death metal drummers are some of the hardest working drummers out there.Constantly pushing themselves and the envelope of extreme drumming. If you can't appreciate that, fine, but your tainted view of metal culture is ignorant.

Yawn !

This WILL be my last response on this ridiculous subject. The whining room is the second door down on your left. When you're done acting like you are 6, Come on back and join the rest of us. PLEASE, next time bring a positive subject to the "ALL TYPES OF DRUMMERS / ALL TYPES OF MUSIC"-DRUMMERS FORUM.
This is not the place for this type of behavior.
PLE-E-E-E-EZE-move on. We don't need a wall of attitude between any of us.
I have already told you that -YOU WIN-- I SURRENDER--What's the point in
continuing to rant??
I would far rather rather have you as a fellow drummer that I respect than this.

Dude...this is YOUR subject, you brought it up!And still have not answered anything.I agree though, your subject is ridiculous.Do you realize how silly you look? You jump into a metal thread...It says the words "sick" and "metal" right in the title and bash all who listen to and participate in metal and call me negative and say I'm whining. Then you swiftly, like a good politician, evade all questions and assume no responsibility and displace your frustration on the debating party.People can read and will easily see where I'm coming from.Like I wish to garner your respect. You have not ceased insulting me and yet still have the balls to press on.Kudos.

I really, really love this forum.... The thing I love the most is everyone can have a say. It matters only what is relevant and when it starts to become personal , the excitement and the potential gain in cross musical culturalisation is sadly forgotten.
