Re: SO, who is/are your favorite drummer(s)? Count Basie's and Duke Ellington's drummers battle a bit on the CD - "First Time: The Count Meets the Duke."
Those two drummers could PLAY, and their names aren't even listed in the CD paperwork. Great CD - basically, those bands blow your brains out! Great jazz. |

Re: SO, who is/are your favorite drummer(s)? I really don't know why Dave Grohl is in the lists. Hes a good drummer, but in Nirvana or any songs I really don't seen any advanced drumming, just simple speedy pattern like Smells like teen spirit. But thats just my opinion, but he is a down to earth and funny guy.
My list would be:
Matt Cameron from Soundgarden. Everything I learned and my style would have to have come from him, his off beat, simple and tom patterns he does. While not going fast, he is a good modern drummer. Wouldn't say the best in the world, but great.
Nearl Peart from Rush. He is phenominal when he drums, all his drum solos are very great especially when he plays on the xylophone. He is probably one of the best out there.
John Bonham from Led Zepplin. This guy was crazy, doing his galloping and shuffles, one of my favorite things I captured in the way I drum which was from him. |

Re: SO, who is/are your favorite drummer(s)? Tony Williams - a true artist and pioneer
Stuart Copeland - great meter and creativity
Gene Hoglan - incredible speed, endurance, melody and yet isn't afraid to integrate other styles
Lars Ulrich - knew when to bring the speed (relative to the songs) but also knows when less is more, (thread says favorite, not world's best)
All four of these dudes have had significantly long and influential careers. I have learned a lot from all of them and that is why they are my favorites. |

Re: SO, who is/are your favorite drummer(s)? I will agree with Metellica's drummers he did lots of cool simple beats in many of their songs. Sometimes he would hit cymbals unexpectedly, something where you think hes going to hit one he doesn't. |

Re: SO, who is/are your favorite drummer(s)? I am stunned that nobody has mentioned Dave Mattacks, former drummer of Fairport Convention and many other bands.
A brilliant minimalist drummer. |

Re: SO, who is/are your favorite drummer(s)? My heroes: Larry Mullen Jr (U2), Steve Clifford (Circa Survive), Matt Tong (Bloc Party), Danny Carey (Tool), Ronnie Vannucci (the Killers), Chad Szeliga (Breaking Benjamin), Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Joey Castillo (Queens of the Stone Age), but most of all Sam Fogarino from Interpol. He comes up with some of the catchiest beats I've ever heard. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
