Jeff Porcaro's 'Rosanna' Shuffle groove I LOVE this groove and am still practising to master it. There's a video of it on drummerworld.com and it has it written out. Has anyone got any tips?
I just think he's a legend! Click here to watch video
Enjoy! |

| | | sounds easy but when you put in the lil' taps on the snare and the fact he says he isn't playing straight triplets on the hat makes it hard :P |

| | | This groove was taken from two different grooves from two different masters.
1. Bernard "Pretty" Purdie
2.John Bohnam
Mr.Purdie came up with a shuffle that is affectionately known as "The Purdie Shuffle, you can find a video of this on you tube where Mr.Purdie "splains" how it is played.
John Bohnam played a similar groove on the Zepplin classic "Fool In The Rain" |

Re: Jeff Porcaro's 'Rosanna' Shuffle groove I also love this groove, looking to start learning it this week. Sounds easy - looks complex! |

Re: Jeff Porcaro's 'Rosanna' Shuffle groove Yeah, that is a sick groove! I've done variations of it before, but I'd like to learn this exact one....thanks for sharing it. What works best with me in learning these kind of complex patterns is to learn, for example, the HH part first. Practice that until its smooth. Then add the kick pattern in, and smooth it out. Then go back to just the HH part and add the snare. Then combine all the parts. Hope this helps, and thanks again, I can't wait to learn this! |

WOW, thanks man! He's mindblowing. Talk about pocket, wow. Not to mention, the FUNNIEST drummer I've ever seen....I laughed so hard watching this, I was crying! ROFC
Let me "splain." I love how he gets SO into the groove, he's like "Oooh, yeah." His facial expressions are just pure gold. Man, Purdie rocks! I went and watched like 5 other videos, he's so entertaining, What a baller! |

Re: Jeff Porcaro's 'Rosanna' Shuffle groove I remember when my stepfather handed me Toto IV (I was 14 and he was a session guitarist in Sydney) and he said, "If you learn how to play the drums on this album, note for note, without having to think about what you're doing, you can play anything...
Took me about 9 months, but I finally got it... Porcaro was my God! I literally cried the moment I found out he died way back in 92... Locked myself in a room for 4 days and did nothing but listen to Jeff Porcaro tracks... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
