Re: Travis Barker I think a drummers ability to be overrated is a skill in itself. You have to hand I to Joey and trav that they can become two of the most inspirational and respected musicians around through hard marketing rather than personal developement. |

Re: Travis Barker No, I still don't!
People are not "skilled" at being overrated. If a person is overrated, that is because they do things that seem alot better than they are to uneducated people. If somebody becomes famous by marketing rather than personal development, they shouldn't be famous at all. I lack respect for such people. |

Re: Travis Barker Eh, the point here is that none of the overrated drummers are that awesome and that there are way better drummers that get no credit at all. |

Re: Travis Barker Alright, whoever brought Joey Jordison into this, unecessary.
completely unecessary.
I wouldn't say he's overrated. If anything, Travis Barker is far more overrated.
Derek Roddy is slowly becoming another overrated drummer, basically due to his forum I think. But, Joey isn't that overrated, I'd say. He's an amazing drummer at what he does. He is the highlight of Slipknot. They are all amazing people, and mainly incredible musicians. I don't think Joey should have been compared to Travis even in terms of overrated-ness.
That's just ridiculous. |

Re: Travis Barker I have heard and participated in this argument a lot. Travis Barker is good at what he does. He would be about #25 on my all-time list though. Definitely not the best. |

Re: Travis Barker He's a great time-keeper and keeps his cool, despite looking like a crazed mad-man. Definitely a skilled drummer. He may be popular, but it's for all the wrong reasons. Today we live in an era of music full of gimmicks, digital sound processing, and the absence of analog. Travis plays with a great flair of style, and people notice that more so than the music itself. The guy can definitely shred if he needs to.
I kind of feel bad for Travis; the attention he gets is wrongly merited. It's kind of how people love to bash Ringo for being the worst member of the Beatles. Sure, he may not have been a principle songwriter, but his drumming was definitely fresh for the mid-late 60s. Most people have this weird inclination where they feel like they're able to critique music without any credentials. Even when I look through Rolling Stone, I'll see a lot of bone-headed articles/reviews where the staffer really doesn't know what he/she is talking about. It's frustrating to say the least. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
