Nice song choice bouncingstick. You're a better man than me to play that groove. I wish I could travel to your part of the world to play some backing percussion. The cowbell part was critical in Weckl's tune (I kept thinking he should have one mounted on a pedal to play with his left foot).

I'm sure I could figure something out for your salsa!

Did you have the concert bouncingstick? How did it go? What beat did you eventually settle on?

Re: drum concert

hello slingerland
been a long time i didnt logged in. unfortunately, we didnt have the concert as planed last year. so i was kinda dissapointed too ... the song is setted already, but due to a few circumstances, the concert has to wait for a few month. kinda frustating but, it gaves more time to practice.
the concert is planed to be held on end of march . hope that its not goin to be postpone again .. ;p

Re: drum concert

How did you end up getting the salsa feel in 3/4 time (if it's not too difficult to describe in words)?

Re: drum concert

well ... i have to say that it's difficult to describe it in words .. but, hmm .... imagine the salsa in 4/4 , we can divide it into 2/4 also, rite. but then, i decided to add one more beat to the 2/4. just like the 7/8 salsa in dave weckl island magic, i cut one beat from the 4/4 salsa. so it'll sound shorter and a bit weird. but, that's the challenge ther. i arrange the cowbell part to play the backbeat and downbeat. and for the conga and timbales, few pattern so that i noe where the music is, while m playing ...
hope u can understand my description bro .. tried my best

Re: drum concert

Maybe this will help if you listen closely. Hope you make it to the concert next time around. Your style sounds more like a Brazilian beat to me. My brother in law plays Salsa, he's 65 and has even played on the old Malta Silva show, and still going strong.

Sheila E and Tito Puente

Oh ya! Nice clip Tainojim. Sheila's solo was so syncopated. And I love the upstrokes on the cymbal.

Any chance you got a groove goin' like that bouncingstick, but in 3/4 time?

Re: drum concert

I'm self taught, check out the self taught thread. I play by ear, so I know nothing about tabs. Now if you ever want to talk electronics or engineering, those are my main fields.
Drumming has always been more of a hobby for me. I tend to enjoy music of all sorts of life and have played with some really good musicians and met and played with some pros quite a few in my time.

I was in the electric lady recording studio in the Village when I was many moons younger during the construction.

A couple of guys got into a pissing contest and Skin slaps it on them. Don't miss any soap operas here, and don't pay them much mind.

Just opinions get in the way of each other at times.

Yeah man, Sheila is one of a kind. She crossed over, check out her at her web site some time.
