There are no cucumbers in the Arctic Circle. Cucumbers don't grow in tundra.

Mine does.

Well, if you've been eating tundra-grown cucumbers, that explains a lot.

The juandiced eyes, the permanent irritability, the longing just below the surface for a 6-lb. rutabaga.

My Vote goes to Carmine Appice. It's not that he lack talent. However to me his contribution to the music scene is basically he promotes himself as a great drummer and that's it. His so called legendary band " Vanilla Fudge" didn't do squat. They weren't very successful over all. Most people can't name a single song he played on. After VF broke up who did he play with ? What did he do ? I'll give him one thing he's got a self promotion machine second to none. T

He is a great drummer without a doubt. He may not have ever changed the face of drumming but he has played with huge names throughout his career. Here are a few:

Rod Stewart
Ted Nugent
Tommy Bolin
Bo Diddley
Pink Floyd
Paul Stanley
Jeff Beck
Ozzie Osborne

He has to have some chops to hang with this list of top names.

Re: who do u think is the most over rated drummer/drummers?

I have to eat some Crow here. I am NOT a fan of Slipknot' music. I never really have been. I found them to be gimmicky. I never found Joey J to be especially interesting either, so I didn't pay much attention to him. However, he much more than I thought. A couple of years ago, my band played a festival with Slipknot. There was warm-up kit set up in the back for us. Joey and I, and couple of other guys hung out around it most of the afternoon, goofing-off with kit, and keeping a low profile. I have to admit: I was wrong about him. The guy is an extraordinarily talented player. I still don't like his band. I'm convinced he does it for money, though. He's got jazz and fusion chops, dynamic sensitivities, and a tasteful ear. I would have never thought it before, but he actually is a quite impressive talent.

My choice for over-rated is Portnoy. I just think find him musical. He's got all the skill and ability in the world, but no taste. He's got Yngwie Malmsteen's Disease. Just because you can play 700 notes a second, doesn't mean that you should. I tried for years to appreciate his playing like it seemingly deserved. By, I cannot. It sounds like wanking to me. I don't hear tonal dynamics or rhythmic harmonies, in his playing. I just hear "Hey, check this out. I'm Awesome!". He's fast and he's technical, but he has no soul. He's all "Chops", and no "Flavor". I can't listen to it for more than 2 minutes at a time, and nor should you. It will make you stupid.

My teacher taught me that a musician needs only 2 core principals.:
1. Music is not in the notes you play, it's in the space between the notes.
2. Musical Maturity is being able to recognize when NOT to play.

That's it. $10,000 worth of lessons, and that's what I learned! (worth every penny)

Wow, finally another who isn't a fan of Slipknot.

Even though Joey is a good player, it seems like Slipknot is there for all show...like they have flavor and no follow through.

I agree about Portnoy. To be a good drummer (or percussionist) it's important to have both feel and chops. Several notes with no style is nothing compared to a simple beat that gets you moving. Ha, I agree, it will make you stupid

Good lessons(: bene bene.
