Re: Mike Portnoy on Avenged Sevenfolds records You guys took my comment completely the wrong way, but I can understand how you did. What I said was not explained and I didn't think it through when I posted it. However, I do think that the death of Pual was not a major loss, TO THE WORLD OF MUSIC. I do not think any human being should die for any reason and I think it is terrible that a musician would die at such a young age. I do not consider Paul's death a major loss in terms of what he brought to Slipknot simply because I see them as a horrible band with very little talent. Because of that I am unmoved by the death of Paul as a musician, but as for his death as a human being, I find it very tragic and wish he could still be alive.
I tried to explain once already to dragpyre that I was speaking from a music standpoint and was in no position to judge his character. Please understand this.
As for you HXC, if I have no heart, then you are no better and perhaps worse than I, considering you would see my death as no major loss.
I hope I have explained myself MORE CLEARLY in this post and that there will be no further MISUNDERSTANDING regarding my earlier comment. |

Re: Mike Portnoy on Avenged Sevenfolds records For sure. I really like this place, it's a shame when ambiguity causes such conflict. I am also sorry that I was so ignorant of possible interpretations of my words.
Either way, I still haven't even bought the new A7X album... I was at Hastings the other day, but I was like $2 short |

Re: Mike Portnoy on Avenged Sevenfolds records Butter,
I'm sorry you chose to repeat your opinion that the death of Paul was not a major loss TO THE WORLD OF MUSIC. Someone who valued him as a musician, feeling his loss, would probably find your comment hurtful. No such person would have to take anything the wrong way to feel that way. I think your comment can fairly be viewed as harsh or inconsiderate. I don't think you fully understand the dynamics of the situation because of this lack of consideration.
You have every right to your opinion of Paul and Slipknot, but sometimes it is more considerate not to express one's opinion, because people have feelings. |

Re: Mike Portnoy on Avenged Sevenfolds records Well, think about it this way; even if his viewpoints are expressed on here, he at least apologized for what was first thought to be a heartless opinion on the death of a musician.
I feel there are two things that should not be discussed in public, EVER, because no matter what the viewpoint is things are always taken the wrong way: Religion and Politics.
In my opinion, his opinion was miniscule compared to what could have been said; the main thing here is the apology. If someone else wants to come on and express their opinion, they can. There may be an argument that arouses from it, but that's ok, because that happens in this world all the time. Fights will happen, people will get mad, then everything will cool down.
And what's the matter with Butter expressing his feelings, no matter how inconsiderate? He's not perfect; I even went behind him and agreed with him, even though nothing else was said from there on. People do have feelings, yes, but they need to be expressed. If somebody has a disagreement (take HXC for instance), then they can talk it out if need be. Both sides may express their opinion then be done with it.
Ok...sorry...um...
Carry on with Portnoy and Avenged Sevenfold and stuff... |

Re: Mike Portnoy on Avenged Sevenfolds records I see no apology.
It's very easy to be opinionated and not give a damn about the feelings of others.
It's a skill to know that expressing your negative feelings about someone who has recently died will be hurtful to others who value them, whether you're just talking about their musical ability or the character of the person.
I guess the real question is whether you care about others or not. |

Re: Mike Portnoy on Avenged Sevenfolds records Then he needs to be taught how to express those feelings...I reckon. |
