Question Just came back from a day of drum hunting..

So i went to a local music shop and found a Used Pacific by DW Platinum Series Satin Oil 4 piece shell pack for $1099. Chrome hardware, 18x22 bass 16x14 floor tom 8x10 & 9x12 toms. The guy at the shop really talked them up. He would only let me play on a tom tho, said he couldn't set it up in the shop (but also said i had a 30 day return period).

Anyone Know anything about these drums? I cant seem to find any reviews on them. & does anyone have any pointers on what i should be asking the guy at the shop about them? I've never bought a used set before, and don't really know what im getting into here.

That is PDP's top of the line drum and if I am not mistaken they are Maple shells. They are very nice drums and for that price well worth considering.

First off tell the guy that you are very interested in them and that you want to inspect them as well as play them. If he wants to sell them he will comply, I personally would not buy anything (not just limited to drums) without being able to try it first. The fact that they are used means you can get a great set of drums for a great price, but it also means that you don't know the history of the drums either. When looking them over see if there are signs of abuse, for example scratched drums, dings or rub marks, if not the set has been well cared for.

Remember, you will always get more drums for the money buying a used set but make sure you are getting something that has been taken care of.

Great point Der.

May I also add that a return policy doesn't mean a total refund unless it's in writing.

And if you don't mind a couple of nicks and dents, you can also talk down the price.
