Tama Rockstars or Yamaha Stage Customs

Greetings. Trying to figure out which is better. Tama Rockstars or Yamaha Stage Customs. My son is wanting to "upgrade" from his Rockstars, but I don't know much about Yamaha"s. Would this be a step "up" or are his Rockstars at par. Thanks for any advice...

Re: Tama Rockstars or Yamaha Stage Customs

Tama and Yamaha both make quality drums. The Rockstars have mahogany/basswood shells and the Stage Customs have birch shells, so you would be moving to a different sound. Whatever you get, you want to hear it played and play it to be sure you like the sound.

Stage Customs are at the low end of the Yamaha line (as are Rockstars in the Tama line), but they review very well. If you want to go to a birch shell drumset that is widely acclaimed as a high quality set, check out the Yamaha Recording Customs. Can't go wrong there.

Good hunting.

Thanks! The problem with playing or hearing them is the Yamaha"s are 200 miles away. Its a set that on Kijiji..... It's a "natural wood" finish, double bass, and 10,12,13 rack toms, 16 floor tom. It looks nice, but from what I'm hearing, he wouldn't be really "upgrading" much.....just different.

Your question is drum related, but I don't know if you read the rules of this forum.

We try our best to keep the forum PG rated. Your user name is what I'm questioning.

Once you pick a user name, you're stuck with it.

I've consulted with a senior MOD to get his opinion on this.

I'm surprised that the other MOD didn't pick up on this.

You do how ever have good status as far as a member.

Oh well, if that's your nickname, since 2007 with DSC. You're stuck with it I guess.

As we are here at the forum. I didn't realize that you've been around here longer than me.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. We've been trying to keep the forum PG for the past couple of yours now.

So all I can say is "Happy New Year" and may it be a healthy and prosperous one.

P.S. My son is 6'2" and 255lbs. But I called him Roley Poley when he was a big little tyke.

2007 is when they really started to crack down, because of me.
