I personally think the Yamaha PHX is the best Japanese built drum set available, but don't let anyone's opinion be the reason you buy one. Go play a set and see if they sound good to you and the hardware is acceptable. In the end YOUR'S is the only opinion that matters.

You could argue that most of the drum kits on the budget end of the market are made in china crated up and shipped to UK and USA..and finished off in there respective countries most of the wood comes from indoniesia and the far east because of the cheap cost...

"The canopus japanese sword kit" new kit good range of kits colours and sound amazing compared to the quality and feel of a Slingerland drum kit...could be a Vintage of the future....

Pearl make most of its kits in Japan in kit form to cut down on costs then ship to USA to be finished by Mexicans and monkeys smoking cigarettes.

Yamaha made in Japan....terrible stands and pedals some stuff made in Tiwan that is now China!

Sonnor are made in china....................

I like old Tama drums that you can buy used for reasonable prices. I believe they were made in Japan. I've got some swingstar and imperialstar ones. The concert tom type with only a batter head have a very deep, loud and punchy sound.

It's all a matter of personal preference. My favourite drums at the moment are my small toms that I got at a salvation army store for $40.00. I have no idea what make they are, but they are black so they match my other drums and they have the same punchy tone as the Tama.

A used Ludwig Combo is justifiable for the money. Their imported from Japan.

Go to Ebay or Craig's List.

If you want the best Japanese made drums, then I would definately say Yamaha. I know you would be very happy with them. Which series depends on what style you play.
