Just a little help please.

Ok so, I am sorta new to the whole drumming thing I have started to take lessons and I need a drum set to practice on. I have been shopping around and the cheapest drum set I have found is a GP 100 for $250 at a place called vintage drums.com, but i have also had my eyes on $300 drum sets at zzounds.com because they offer a 4 time payment plan.
I have asked my uncle for help cause he plays drums and he didn't really help me at all; my budget is only like $200-$375. I figured that would be a good enough budget for my first drum set.
If anyone could help me out with some suggestions or if they were to have a old set that they would part with that would be awesome. thanks guys.
P.S. I have looked in craigslist and ebay and amazon so that does not help if suggested.

Keep looking. You'll find a set. The biggest thing to look at in a first set is the hardware - the cymbal stands, the foot pedal, the tom holders. the high-hat stand, and the drum shells themselves. The more hardy they are the better. Open and close them all to see that they work right. work the bass drum pedal to be sure that it works ok. Cymbals are expensive - if you can find name brands, go for it. Matching colors of drums doesn't matter - SOUND matters. Make sure that the drums have all of their lugs, and that they aren't loose. You can replace heads, but not shells.

i will certainly keep looking... i dont have another question. See i want to play metal and i guess punk also, my friend told me that it would be a good idea to get a double pedal for it. He said that he would sell me his for $175 but i have found cheaper ones, but i am confused on one thing. If i buy a double pedal will it just come with one pedal and a connector to hook up to another one or will it come with both pedals.

A double pedal has two pedals, one on the right like a regular pedal, and one all the way on the left close to your hi hat. I use one like that. They work really well. You don't need two bass drums that way. Just be sure that it is functionally good. DW, Tama, Pearl and others make good ones.

Just a thought - instead of buying complete set of drums you won't want to stay with, buy a good snare drum, stand, and throne. Use the snare for practicing your rudiments, learning stick control, counting, etc. Take time to find right kit, whether new or used. The snare doesn't need to match the rest of the kit. You can also learn about tuning your heads on one drum instead of a whole kit.
I play sometimes with acoustic group w. just the snare and brushes - you can learn about creating 'the pocket', keeping time for a group, and listening to the other players.
Good luck.

I but i got to talk to my uncle a little more and ill go ahead and post the links of 3 possible drum sets that im looking more into.'

The only thing stoping me at the moment is prices you know? I mean I realized it wasn't going to be cheap; its just I got bills and debts to pay to my mom seeing as im only 16. and thats why im more favored towards zzounds.com because i can pay per month instead of all together. The only thing i hate about that site is the lack of cool drums. like i like wine red or metallic blue finishes i think they are just awesome looking most of the drum sets in my budget dont have those options unfortunatly.

Yo dude maybe your uncle is not up to speed on current drum kits as the goal post have moved slightly...your better off to begin with do some research on the manufacture of drum kits...Have a good idea and buy a second hand kit from a news-paper add or shop window and look to get as much extras as possible with it...as being a drummer is an expensive hobby dude.it may be someone selling the kit that knows nothing about its true value so barter have a figure in your head and never go above it but as a lever always be prepared to stick an extra $20 $30 on top if its unbelievable deal..so are there cases with the kit are there cymbals with the kit and Hard wear..that way you get the best deal for your money....and don't have to fork-out until u can afford too and enjoy playing dude......thats what i would do ...don't even look in the music shops until u can play to a high standard and u know what u want...remember when Scott Gorham turned up to audition with thin Lizzy he used a cheap Gibson.Les Paul Copy and the other guitarist scoffed until he started playing it...its not what you use its how you play thats most important dude and any amount of money on the planet cant buy talent you have to earn it....let the gigs pay for your future kit..and never go out of pocket just to be in fashion...learn to play them drums and earn respect from what you do..........Its two fingers to Capitalism

In my opinion the best out of THOSE three is the rockwood. The Sonor is better but it doesn't come with cymbals. Non of those drumsets are all that great but then its what Andy said. Its how you play it
